I just saw this when leaving feedback:

Sellers can no longer leave buyers negative or neutral feedback

    What?
    That's ridiculous.

    Yup.

It seems to be something they've inacted to put an end to much of the retaliatory feedback left by sellers when they are negged by a buyer who feels the transaction/item were not as advertised. It will be interesting to see if it remains as is, or if more changes to their feedback policies are made.

Lol, Mag, there have been threads on this since March. A welcome change.
Weed out the shysters, the good will rise to the top.

I have a cpl of the biggest creeps, roll stuffers, photoshoppers, and self slabbers saved in fav sellers now, just to see if the new system works as designed.

i kind of like it now because ones i purchased a Mp4 player from china and he send a DUMMY mp4. That mp4 really had nothing inside it when we try to open it and fix it.. that was after we had been contacting the seller for like 2 months. I left him him negative feedback and he left me one saying *** bad buyer, BAD Communication, Be aware** ... what a low lifer makes me think that guy is!
The mp4 was for a present which i could not give to my cousin...

I was dismayed with the policy at first but really, I'm starting to think it's not that bad of a policy. IME anyway, most of the time when a buyer wants something, they normally pay right away or the next day. This is all that's really required of a buyer.

Sellers have more responsibilities and should be able to handle the volume of item's they're selling, represent them accurately and all in all do what they can to keep the buyer happy. Most of the time this takes good communication which is where a lot of people fail. I like sellers to keep me updated.

Both negatives I have on ebay are retaliatory negatives from sellers who misrepresented what they were selling. I paid immediately in both cases. On the flip side, I've always managed to keep buyers happy with good communication, and good descriptions and pics.

I believe the sellers earn negative feedback much more than buyers. I figure if I get a very bad buyer that bails on the deal, you can still write whatever you want in their positive feedback. In caps.

To me this says that EBAY has made it black or white for buyers - either they pay or they don't. If a buyer pays they (according to EBAY) should get a positive and if they don't then there is the NP process. I feel the buyer has a little more to do than to pay - buyers IMO own half of the communication, half of what is needed for a smooth transaction, etc. Maybe buyers should have star ratings too.

That should help with really bad buyers.

    Seems like a good idea.

For the most part, the buyer's obligation is complete when they pay. What else is there ? (in most cases).

If they pay in a timely manner with good funds, they should get positive feedback. Sellers should not hold feedback hostage waiting for their own feedback.

Makes sense. I think that validates E-bay's policy.

I would think that is true.

Does anyone know how to make suggestions to eBay?

The thought strikes me that if a verified non-pay notice automatically resulted in a neg for the buyer, it would go a long way toward resolving the issues about "no negs" without allowing retaliatory negs by bad sellers.

Did you hear that ebay can possibly force all sellers to accept paypal? ebay Australia is currently on the way of doing so and this isn't funny if you are doing low volume sales. If you sell something and your final bid is at 10 dollars, after paypal and ebay fees, it's just 9 dollars or something - a good 10%. Sell 100 similar items and see how much money they make - it's not profitable to sell too many cheap stuffs on ebay.

The easy solution is to just add that percentage into your low starting bid. It's not against policy to have a low, just to state that low includes these fees. Every business in the world does this to compensate for everything from store rent to taxes.

As a seller and a buyer, I feel communication is paramount. The buyer should pay promptly of course, but it also up to the buyer to communicate any issues thay have if they are not happy. Always give a seller a chance to correct any reasonable problem the buyer may have.

Ebay has made it clear, that any buyer using the new system to hold sellers hostage, ex: asking for a partial refund instead of a return/refund, trying to negotiate shipping charges after the sale is final, etc, will not be tolerated.

It is the sellers obligation to provide clear pictures and an accurate description, ship in a safe and timely manner, and charge a reasonable fee to deliver.

The problem of buyers fearing retaliatory feedback are over, so we should see alot more honest feedback.

The bad will sink and the good will rise. I have no problems at all with the new system. But, I tell you this, the very first time Paypal seizes my money for 21 days, I am done. DONE.

Only the new sellers and non powersellers are required to accept paypal, but I do anyways because it is the fastest way to get the cash working again. 3% wont hurt.

As for Ebays 10%, remember this. Most auction houses charge 15-20%, AND a buyers premium of 15%. Buyers figure the premium into the bid, so in real life, you are charged 30%.

Ebay is still the best venue for most sellers and nowhere else on the planet will you get the product specific traffic.

Right on Arizona Jack. I always e-mail the seller or buyer to just notify him and to thank him. It sets the transaction on the right foot, and I have never had a negative feedback!

Not quite Jack - they do charge the seller a fee, anywhere from 7% - 15%. And they charge the buyer a fee - 15% - 20%. But the buyer does not pay both those fees - they only pay the last one.

Depending on what you are selling - I would agree. But in some cases, more expensive coins for example, you may be better off using the auction houses.

    Let me clarify:

    Seller has a $100 coin worth $100

Ebay: sells for $100, seller receives $90
Auction house: coin sells for $85 plus 15%

seller only received 85% of $85

buyer paid $100 in both cases roughly

The one thing that I don't like is that they now include neutral FBs with the negative. If they add them up that way they might as well be a negative. I do understand having neutral feedback but if you add it up like a negative in your percentage then it just makes no sense to me. Also I don't like the one year and the feedback falls off of your percentage. I have seen my % go down this last week and I did not receive a neutral or a negative. How does that even make sense?
