I went on forvm and posted a coin and they graded it a B-, so what does that mean? also, how good are airtites for ancients, or should I use flips? stainless
Its a joke (like getting a B- on a paper! :-D) Airtites are, in my opinion, bad for ancients. Usually, the coin won't be perfectly round and will leave a lot of room to rattle around. Flips work much better.
Stainless I don't know squat about ancients . Maybe you can get your money back if it's not the grade they said . Well we all learned lessons the hard way H eck , gotta go my wife is yeeling at me to use the computer . see ya rzage
Compare price/grade: http://www.vcoins.com/ancient/moneta/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=44&large=0 you did fine!
I would agree, the grade is lower than EF. But what I like about the coin is that it looks really aged, sometimes these Sassanian drachms have harshly cleaned and IMO they don't look as nice. As a general rule, best to decide yourself what the grade is and not just follow what the seller says. This can be difficult with unfamiliar coins for which there is no handy reference, but once you get used to looking and comparing specimens of a particular series it should become a habit.
BTW you can use airtites for ancients just use the ones with the black foam inserts that hold the coin. I am going to use an airtite for my most recent English hammered acquisition.
