Haven't received this coin in the mail yet so haven't seen it in hand but opinions on the grade of this Walker from the attached photos would be appreciated.
Definitely a MS coin. Pictures show good luster, some hits, I would say 64, but I would guess it gets better grade. Looks slabbed already. If so by whom and what grade did they give it? Nice coin!!! Allen
Thanks. Coin is ungraded/unslabbed. It is in a 2 by 2 snap holder right now. From the pictures I thought i t might go MS65 which might make it worth the price to grade. Looking forward to getting it in hand to see.
I just checked and it looks like the price triples from 64 to 65. I hope it gets a 66 if its graded. I'm not a fan of slabbing coins, I certainly wouldn't pay to have it done unless I have a coin worth thousands of dollars. I just love raw coins anyway. 47 is a special year to me, I wish I had your coin or one as good as yours to commemorate it. Good Luck! Allen
Thanks Allen. I got it for what I think is a really good price (about 40 bucks). It just looks like a really nice strike which Frank says and looks like it has a shot at 65 or hopefully 66 so that would make it worth it. Mind me asking why 47 is a special year for you?
The images don't allow for a really good look at the coin but my best guess is MS64, due to the ticks/hits along the left leg of Ms. Liberty, on the sun and in the upper right obverse field.
Thanks Mark for taking a look..I did notice that nick in the upper right obverse. Haven't got the coin in hand to really check it out or take more head on pictures. Thanks again for your opinion.
Agreed I Agree completely , the heavy leg dings would lower this 65 down to 64 , very nice strike though , wonder if it's typical of year & mint . rzage:loud: |Though it's nicer than my PCGS - 64
Not at all. I started collecting BU year mint sets to commemorate the birth years of my immediate family. 47 is the birth year of my step father, who has been a real dad to me growing up as well as today. I have an AU 47P in his set now and I can't wait to replace that with a nice MS, as nice as your would be perfect. I have most all the 60's year mint sets collected, raw, a good deal of the fifties, a 42P, 43P, 47P and 48P. I then have a 35P, 36P, and the 37P, my mothers birth year. I also have a circulated 1912P set, my grandfathers birth year. One day I'll put BU set together for that year, one day when I have big money to spare. I'll most likely spend decades put these sets together, I love doing it as much as I love having them to look at over and over. $40.00 is a steal by the way, IMHO! Allen
I'll respectfully disagree with that. You can probably buy a certified MS64 for slightly above that price and there is no assurance that this one is an MS64.
Now that is quite a collection of birth year sets. Got to love the history associated with the coins. Thanks for sharing!
I just have to wait and see when I get it. Once of the reasons I bought the coins is the nice golden toning and a nice strong strike especially on the reverse. I am more than happy to pay 40 bucks and keep it raw regardless. Coin has great eye appeal in my opinion regardless. Of course I wouldn't even bother to send it in if it doesn't have a shot at 65 which it probably doesn't.
I disagree. I think it has a shot at 65. On the other hand, I still wouldn't risk sending it in and it coming back with a lower grade.
Thanks- The only way I would send it in to NGC is Economy which is 16 bucks. Need 5 coins minimum for that so if I am looking for another coin to make 5 and I think it has half a shot at 65 I might send it in. After I get it I will probably run it by the local coin shop to see what they say. Even a MS65 goes for around 120 bucks or so the coin is low priority on sending in for grading. Thanks for everyones opinions. It is certainly appreciated.
