Ive researched varietyvista and didnt see any listings for a 1974 S with a RPM or OMM. does this look odd to anyone else though? If this is not any kind of error than could someone please tell what they think may have caused this? Thank you to any and all that can help share a bit of their wisdom ☺
I don't think anything is going on with this specimen; perhaps a hit on the mm to flatten out the center or worn die/chip suggested by paddyman. Here's a link: http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1974&die_id=1974s1mm001&die_state=mds
Well Meow has noticed that the mintmark is of a different style, font etc. form time to time. Meow sees what you show all the time. It does look different than the thin lined MM one usual sees. Meow has heard that older proof sets would have mintmarks like this. But Meow sees a little extra tic going on at the top right of the S. That to Meow looks like it could be S/S. Meow is not sure if there has been any documented instances of this.
Kitty - only one mm listing at Coppercoins but I did not check Wexler’s site. Of course there is always a chance for a new attribution.
