Yes. I have lost a valuable coin, but later found it. I have a habit of working in my recliner and have had coins slide off of my lap and go inside of the chair, so I drape a faux sheepskin blanket over the chair so nothing can slip in the cracks, but as I was doing a complete inventory of my latest purchased coins, I came up with one missing. I recovered all of the envelops and went through them, coming up empty. I figured I must have not received the coin yet, so went back through my delivery notices and found that indeed I had received it. A few days later, I picked up a catalog next to my chair and out fell the coin!
Maybe you should ask your son-in-law and keep it between yourselves. A guy thing bonding. LOL

Whenever I lose something I buy another, and the original lost item shows up shortly after the new one arrives. Just a suggestion, your mileage may vary. Paying extra for shipping the second one usually helps too.

This is a potential hiding place! Bless you for saying this. I had a knee replacement late May and I did spend a lot of time in my recliner messing with my coins. I know I have found the TV remote more than once slipped down the side of that recliner. Thank you.

I still say you should buy a second one. :)

What a bonehead! (Oh, did I say that out loud?:jawdrop:)

Randy, ask her to take a pic of it because in your excitement & haste, you forgot to document it in your catalog. (Then you only have to hope she can take a descent picture!) Of course, you may then have to prove to her that you have a catalog.

If all originated at the Mint, a quick count of invoice quantity vs inventory should answer it.

She may be adapting better to old age, or she may just be better at keeping her geriatric moments secret. If nobody is around to witness when I do something silly, it never happened.

Oh, yeah, the "Stella in the landfill" story. :( . I forgot that was Fred. At least it was holdered, so the coin itself might actually be okay.

As for the topic, I haven't personally lost any coins, but a dealer who was going to send them to PCGS for me misplaced a $500 coin and a $150 coin. I don't hold it against him. Stuff happens. I wish I had my coins back, but I can live without them.

I've lost a 1914-D Lincoln once...made me nauseous for a few days. I never did find it.

I managed to lose a GSA Carson City silver dollar which I bought during the sales of the early 1970's.

I noticed the coin missing in the early 1980's although I still have the GSA certificates and cardboard box.

I don't know the date of the coin as the coin was one of the lower grade uncirculated ones where the certificate did not state the date.

    :)

Yeah, I have lost coins. I lost a New Jersey colonial note in CU. No idea where it is today. However, given my way I collect I have no idea what I have lost or not really.

OP, if you really want to know if she has it I think the "old man being forgetful and need a picture" is a good play here. Or, just assume she has it, and buy another. It is your daughter, so not lost. My kids can have any coin I own if they want it.

I have finally found my real father. My mother always told me about you, and that I was a product of a Led Zepplin concert "after party", and wasn't quite sure who the father was. She only remembered one name, but it didn't make sense until just now. (Medoraman)
I'll PM my address for you to send the coins. I'm not picky, or greedy, so just your favorite 10-15 coins should suffice. ;) :)

Well heck, if you think it's possible to only have a favorite 10 or 15 coins, it kind of proves you can't be mine. :) I couldn't pick out my favorite 200 or 1000.

Well, not quite the same thing. I did not lose a $400 coin but I did lose $400 plus purchasing an ancient coin that turned out to be phony. I didn't find this out until a couple decades later and the dealer long gone (to perdition, I hope).
