This 82 cent is dirty but I dont want ruin it my book is almost filled. 1909 VDB - 2006. Both pics I'm posting are '82' but the D is so dirty. Thanks for any help.
Not going to make a difference with it. I would just wait for a nicer one, or pay 25 cents for an unc.
Once a copper coin tones this dark, there is not a good way to turn it back red. Trying will only kill the looks of the coin.
I got a cent out of the eighties in change just the other day that looked as if it had just left the mint. As Larry said, one will probably show up that will satisfy you.
Have you checked to see if it's a copper or zinc. There are 7 varieties that year consisting of small & large dates, different mint marks and copper plated zinc or copper
I have about 50 rolls of pennies I collected in 1982 that are all 1982 or older that I haven't looked since the day I rolled them. I though at the time, better get all the copper I can before it's gone, like silver back in the 60's. I was wrong, that never happened.
You will find them, they are out there. I had never seen this set until I ran across it at a swap meet for $2 or $3. Has all 7 varieties. The 82 LG date copper was the first coin I ever posted here on CT. It is a slight MAD and a Woody. Badthad said it is a VEDS (very early die state) and pretty clean. The others were okay but the zinc ones were kind of crappy.
