Take a look at http://cgi.ebay.com:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120262170062&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 auction. The seller added larger pictures for me. It looks legit to me - what would you grade the coin? I think I see a touch of wear, but I am not positive. I don't want to influence your opinions, but the light seems to make the surfaces look cleaned. But I need some other opinions. Thanks
What you see is what you get? Request the weight of coin & ask about return policy. Look at thread somewhere several pages below concerning identical coin posted by ozarktravler. title...Beware, examine this coin ...lot of debate and good advice in that thread.:secret:OT
Be VERY careful. This coin may be genuine; it may be fake. It looks good at first glance but, like OT said, there are excellent fakes out there, not just the cheap Chinese counterfeits. I would be VERY careful buying a Trade Dollar from a seller with only a 15 feedback rating. And ALL his feedback is as a buyer; this is the first item he has sold. That should be a warning sign. Sure, he has had his account for 18 months but it is possible he set the account up knowing he would use it to sell bogus coins after the account has "aged" a sufficient amount of time. As a TV robot was known to say, "WARNING, Will Robinson. WARNING!"
I did read that thread and used the red book for the obverse and reverse, but that does not mean I did not miss something. They listed a return policy and no matter what weight they gave me - I would weight it immediately up receiving it. The real question is - what do you think of the grade and condition? At no point have I said I would bid on this trade dollar. But I did get a seller to put better pictures up. To me it looks real, but an AU coin.
And most of his feed back was buying $1 to $2 coins. Yes I saw that. Notice my last post - I still have not said I would bid. But I do appreciate all the feed back. Thanks
His 1806 large cent is tooled. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120262172155&indexURL=1#ebayphotohosting
tooled? prolly not genuine. Look at the nose profile, thats my first indication. And tooled. I would not buy a raw trade $ on the bay unless I knew the seller
I must have missed that 1806 large cent - it might be genuine, but badly tooled. I did not plan on bidding on any of the coins. I was hoping to get some grade opinions on it. I might get me one soon, but it would be from one of the dealers I work with. But it will be quite a while before I do purchase one - just trying to get a feel for the grading. Thanks for all the input.
Yes - I am a gambler. But not with coins. Let me clarify that - I still consider myself a rookie and so sometimes when I buy a coin it is a gamble because I could make a mistake. But I try to prep myself - even then sometimes the coins in hand make "like them" and buy. See the other thread on the coin store. I prepped to go down and buy some hole fillers for my lincoln books. I was not prepared for 2 of the bust halves. I knew about the 1822 they have had it for weeks. The other two were new - last week they did not have anything interesting. So I wanted to fill some holes in my books - these caught me by surprise. So it was kind of a gamble on the 1830, the 1807 was priced about right, as was the 1822. Not sure about the nickel, but I could not pass up that golden toning. I checked heritage on the 1830 coin - grade, date and attribution. The last three have all sold for 125 to 175 more than I paid. A gamble on my part, but it turned out good. There was never anyway I was going to bid on this trade dollar or any ungraded trade dollar.
Buy slabbed It looks fine ,but for a Trade Dollar that nice , it's too much money to spend , to find out later it a fake . #1 rule buyer beware. MS-62-63 is the grade I give it by the pictures. rzage :loud: Ask him to get it certfied by one of the top 3 TPG
not AU By the pictures I can't see any wear at all , am I missing something , maybe , also can't tell if it was cleaned unless I could see it in person . rzage
I was looking at the edge of the wing of the eagle on the reverse and then at the right shoulder were it meets the gown. I have looked at some others(and I suppose it could be weak strike) and they seemed to be better struck through those areas.
