Thinking of joining the local coin club in my area which is the Northeast Tarrant County coin club. Any coin talk members involved with this club and if so how do you like it? Thanks

Suggestion. Look into the club. Try going to a meeting and continue asking here if anyone knows of that club or any individuals in the club. Try posting the name of the club in the title of your post. If there are any memebers of that club here, they may respond. I'm very cautious about such clubs. Naturally the reason is the Chicago invironment here. Not safe to join any club for coins, guns, knives, etc. You just don't know who all the members are and even when and if you do, you don't know their friends, relatives and neighbors. People have a tendancy to talk. A person with 10 coins becomes a hundred then thousands then millions in conversations. Be carefull.

I have to say, I never thought about coin clubs in this way. It's kind of frightening. Good thing there are no coin clubs near where I live. And hopefully nobody on this forum knows where I reside. :)

Thanks for the good advise. I did talk to the club contact a few weeks back. Really nice guy and very helpful. Got the club info off the ANA site. They have a meeting once a month on the first Thursday of the month. Wanted to go last Thursday but was working (I typically work afternoons). Will try to make the next meeting.

PS. Working right now so no body give the Flyers Hockey score. Recording it on Tivo right now.:)

I'm going to the NET meeting tonight. It's a surprisingly large club (there were about 70 people at the January meeting).

I would be more afraid of going to a coin show than to join a coin club. More people get robbed each year going and coming from coin shows. I believe EVERYONE should belong to their local or national coin clubs. I have spent alot of time in Chicago (in Cicero and Oak Park) and know its not the best or safest place in the USA. But I DO NOT believe in living my life in fear of what might happen because if you do that you are not living! So take a chance and join your club.

Northeast Tarrant CC is a good, and very large, club which is located in Bedford, Texas. I'm a member and hit maybe 3-4 meetings a year (and give programs occasionally; the last was in November and that may have been the most people I've ever presented to).

If you're in that area, I heartily recommend joining that club. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of coin clubs in general, because of all the contacts you can make and the amount you can learn.

BTW, the DFW area has seven clubs by my count -- Dallas, Fort Worth, NE Tarrant, Mid-Cities (Arlington), Numismatics International (Dallas, specializes in World Coins), Denton, and Collin County (McKinney). Drop me a PM if you're interested in info on any of these.
