Appreciate any opinion on this one, ANACS says this coin is a MS 64 RB and I wanted to know if you guys agree with the grade.

I'm not offended by 64 RB. Could be 63 RB with the face marks, though.

Their holders leak. So, their red/brown looks more brown now. The 64 is fine.

Those obverse scratches may hold it down to an MS-63.
And I think it's toned enough to drop down to a BN.

Here's a couple pictures of the coin in-hand

Seems like a reasonable grade. Photos tend to accentuate flaws.

Please leave as is. It's graded as a 64. If you crack it out and resubmit it may cone back a bit lower. It's probably a 63.

I see it as 63 and borderline rb/bn

My thoughts exactly. I'd be at 63 on it, maybe, but it's a nice looking coin.

I agree that it should probably stay in that holder. It does risk losing a point in grade and dropping down to a BN designation if resubmitted.

By way of comparison, look at this 1818 large cent I had. PCGS graded it MS62 BN. Note the amount of original red remaining on it, yet they still called it Brown. This could happen with your Indian cent above.

But regardless of all those technicalities, I do think your 1878 cent is attractive on the eye appeal front.

It’s a solid 63, but it appears to be rather BN than RB... it won’t upgrade if that’s the question. Nice coin though.

I like this one better at 63. It might go RB

ANACS from the Amos Press days, not sure of the precise age w/o seeing the whole bar code.

Assume they were fully in the thrall of late 1990s market grading. Do you believe standards are looser or tighter today vs. then???

I could see PCGS calling it a 64 RB. I don't want to call it a 63 from the images. It's a nice looking coin. The age of the holder is a good sign that the coin is not going to change much for many years, if left in the current holder.

Who cares what it grades. If you like it at the price they want great, if not pass.

I think it's fairly graded, and borderline BN/RB. But, really, just listen to @Conder101.

I love those brown coins that still have some residual red showing. Me and almost everyone else will pay an eye appeal premium for one than just pure brown
