I love the design and everything about this series. Since I started again last year I didn't want to do the Lincoln, Jefferson, Mercury, Washington, Franklin, Kennedy, Peace dolalr sets again...I completed all of those 10 years ago. I want to do something completely different this time.
Two cents is a great series .... simple design, first to use the God motto, short. Relatively easy to complete a circulated one-per-date set, although the '72 is pricey. Lots of varieties if you're interested. Two of the most common and cheapest are plain and fancy five 1865's. The small date '64 is more expensive and fairly easy to differentiate from the large date. If you encounter a raw worn small date, see if there is major doubling (most noticeable in the date and the motto itself). If you do, you're looking at one of the rarest and very valuable US coins ... a small date two cent proof. I know of only one worn one that has been discovered. I'm guessing there may be more out there waiting for a lucky and knowledgeable collector to find. Cal
I too quite like the often underrated and underappreciated 2-cent piece, so I commend your choice to focus on this series. The odd denominations always attracted me, along with the 1/2, 3 and 20 cent series. I splurged on one 2 center, an 1865 graded MS63 BN by NGC. It nowhere compares to Lord Marcovan's blazing example, but we often have to take what we can get.
You should see Pennyguy's 2 cent collection both ms and pr omg he won an award at the Baltimore Whitman show
I had fun putting mine together...I can only afford to get a few more then there are the five or six that I'll never have unless I win the lottery
Nice proof! It's the KF-1-DDO variety. Notice the pronounced doubling (look at TRUST) and how the 7 and 1 are nearly touching. Cal
