So how'd I do? Any kind of premium for something like this? I'll keep it regardless. The best thing is it came out of my girlfriend's change at the store (she always hands over all her coins and bills for me to check before they go into her purse ) so it didn't even cost me the $1 face value
I'll let others answer in more definite terms but my understanding is this minor of an error doesn't carry much of a premium... still I'd save it... rare to see even this much of one! Besides if it's worth even a penny more than a dollar, you're ahead, and if it's only worth face you're not out anything. Usually has to be more "dramatic" than this to carry a significant premium as far as I know but some may be willing to pay a little over face at least. Will let others more expert than myself try to put a more definite value on it.
That's kind of what I was figuring My girlfriend thought it was pretty cool and asked what I thought it was worth. I told her probably $1.10 or so as an on the safe side stab in the dark but that I'd come here to get a more educated guess I'd be kind of suprised if it was worth more than four or five times face but hopefully someone here has an answer. Regardless of the value it's just a cool thing to have.
Since the over-print is into the design - it IS worth a premium! How much i am not sure - i dont get to collect many errors gatzdon or Clembo might be able to provide a better answer on value. Nice find mate! Hold onto it!
If this were a $2 bill, I'd say it was worth $50 to $100. Being a $1 bill, I'd say a conservative estimate is half of that. But as my collection is a bottomless pit pulled from circulation, I don't have much experience with actually buying and selling these. I have found a ton of $2's lately is overprint shifts more subtle than OP's and in searching real auctions (not just ebay) I've seen them realize prices in the $50 to $100 range. Something else to consider, it's pretty difficult to find a dealer willing to pay more than half of what they could sell an error note for. If you find one, please share their contact info with us. OP, that note is a definite keeper in that you don't need a loupe or magnifier to see the error. Congrats on your find.
Not a great premium on that note. Maybe an extra buck or two I doubt any dealers would touch it honestly. More of an ebay thing. When paper money was a bit "hotter" I'd get $3-4 for notes like that on ebay. VERY good eye however and I honestly don't see as many like yours as I used to. Definitely a keeper. clembo
Minor error as already stated with a minimum premuim as stated again..however, to the right collector it may be worth a bit more... Nice find!! RickieB
I definitely concede my valuation guess to clembo as he has more experience with that. Hope I didn't mislead anyone.
Thanks a lot for all the replies. It's sitting in my currency folder now, no doubt happy to have retired from the hectic world of retail.
So did the O.P. give his girlfriend the $1.10 he owes her???? Or at least buy her a box of milk duds next time they're at the movies?
This is a very minor shifting of serial number error. The interest to collect such error may not be so great among collectors. It usually happen over a certain batch of printing. There may be many around. Most of them probably did not get notice in the circulation. If the shifting is wider, it will worth something much more. It will also depend on the condition of the error note. Anyway, it is still a good find at face value.
