Last one, not a commem, but a medal of one of the greatest heroes this country has ever produced. Couldn't resist posting it......
At the mint. It was one of those substandard coins, that the mint offered folks, that became available well after the coin was sold out originally. I cracked it out of the 'lens' and made it a pocket piece. Looks way better than the poor thing that I received from the mint.........
The last "classic" commemorative was the Booker T. Washington in... 1954? https://www.usmint.gov/learn/coin-a...tive-coins/commemorative-coins-from-1892-1954 Modern commems started in... 1982? https://www.usmint.gov/learn/coin-and-medal-programs/commemorative-coins
The haze in these photos is reflection and my less-than-perfect photo setup. The coins themselves are super clean deep cameo
The obverse of that Smithsonian commem is quite lovely. The reverse, unfortunately, is a bit of a mish-mash. Looks like they were designed by two different people (and probably were).
Well the two sets of intials one both the Obv. & Rev. Would definitely prove your statement to be true 2 designers
