I finally got what I deserved from Ebay - suspended account for "feedback abuse"

I admit that on more than one occasion, I intentionally ignored Ebay's rules and bid on items with the intention winning them and leaving negative feedback, in order to warn others about scams, counterfeits, etc. And I therefore deserved to be suspended for doing so. However, I wish that Ebay would take action against more of the scammers, too.

Most recently the seller mentioned here http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=37006

knowingly (in my opinion) listed/sold numerous counterfeits. Ebay has removed the negative feedback I left for him, but thus far, not taken any action with respect to his listings. And that is despite the fact that several people reported him for selling counterfeits. I did what I could for as long as I could and got what I deserved :vanish:

You can always do what unethical dealers do when they can no longer use their primary ebay account... start another one. And for the record I think you (and a lot of other folks here on CT) deserve a big THANK YOU for trying to expose ebay crooks and scammers.

How long will you/your account be suspended? It's never happened to me in over 10 years of Ebaying so I don't know???

    Congrats Mark !!!

Recently, Ebay has shown utter disregard for counterfeit and scam auctions. The bottom line is hurting and the fraudsters pay high fees and constant commisions, therefore are allowed to continue to defraud without fear of consequence.

I recently contacted a seller who is selling " replica " Lincolns from China. I asked if he could sell me the coins without the word replica stamped on the coins. I was only semi suprised when he sent me his entire catolog of available counterfeit coins, all sans " replica"......

I then reported this to Ebay and got the standard " we'll investigate " story. Seller is still selling and continues to list.

Here is a link to the catolog of available fakes, I hope certain dates standout to folks familiar with each series, so they at least can avoid the purchase of fakes coins, and leave that to the Ebayers who are not members here, or those who think Ebay threads are worthless and avoid them.

I was instructed to purchase without mention of the " non replica" so paypal would allow payment to go thru, and to place my " order " in a seperate email to him directly.

    Mark, I tell ya,
It is getting damn discouraging these days.

    EDIT to add Ebay link:

Here here Mark, thanks for taking a stand. I gave up on dealing with eBay for about a year now. You should be commended for fighting this broken system which sucks the life blood out of purchasing a decent coin for a fare price.

Shame there isn't a away to demonstrate on line about these shady practices that eBay lets continue to deceive new collectors and old. There must be a list of collectors who have been screwed, buying from sellers who intentionally commit fraud.

    Keep up the good work.

    Sorry to hear ...

One thing very clear, regardless what is being sold, they plan to get there cut of the deal. To remove the listing would have caused them lose money. Open a new account, and go for it. Be wise and disquise thy self :) in other words, when opening account do so from another another ISP , as your suspended account ISP number is flagged.:( p.s. thanks for trying to save others from goofy coins they will regret, then try and re-sell to another goof.:secret: regards OT

    Mark,
Thank you for doing what was necessary to expose the fraudulent sellers on ebay. You're actually helping a whole lot of potential victims by outing these scammers.

    More power to you.

Well, you know what you did was correct. Punishment by eBay may pose inconveniences, but it doesn't alter the validity of your judgement. Good work.

Thanks for the effort. Sorry to hear it did not end well. If it will make you feel any better, I finally managed to convince netdistro not to list anymore 1943 copper plated Lincolns. I will bet eBay pulled 200+ of his auctions and they never did suspend him. I think he just got tired of paying for his listing just to have them pulled.

    Mark,

I have to admit the title of this thread made me laugh.
The content within does not but KUDOS to you for the effort!

Ebay will ban if they don't lose money. At the shop I work at I just placed a bid on an Ultime Franc for my co worker. To jack up the price? No, he wanted it if it went cheap enough but couldn't bid as he once did from work, got suspended and my boss had his auctions cancelled for a time due to "shilling".
Problem was there was no shilling. Sometimes the boss lists something we may actually want at the right price.
Scott (my coworker) jumped through hoops to get both he and the boss (a powerseller) reinstated. I had to bid for Scott because he is forbidden to. He lost by quite a few bucks by the way.

As it is I had to bid from my house because if I bid from work forget it. No complaints, no proof but you're gone buddy!

I have actually been accused of shill bidding myself by bidding on my bosses stuff BEFORE I ever worked for him! If I see an item listed at $20 in the shop and can get same from auction at $10 why would I pass it up?

A guy accused the boss of shilling on my stuff when I sold a 2001 Silver proof set. This was before I worked there as well. Hey, he bid $100 on a $145 set. Think if he won that wouldn't be for sale in his case?

I like what you did Mark and a shame they can't or won't differentiate. Wonder how long it will take before they start banning the "infoauctions" that some of us have been known to post. Might interfere with the greed machine you know.

Sorry to hear about your account. In the meantime you can always come here and post links to auctions containing counterfeit coins. Then as a group we can report the auction. Ebay may not pull the auction, but at least we can try.

Maybe they pull it, maybe not... but there have been many notable successes. :high5: And every success is one more decent guy who doesn't get hosed by a crummy dealer.

Yes, I join the chorus... KUDOS TO YOU, MARK ! Thanks for the effort.

Your ISp isn't black-listed. All you have to do is delete all your cookies and then open a new account with minor "modifications".

You have to understand that how Ebay treats sellers is mutual to buyers. Without buyers, sellers wouldn't sell their wares so Ebay just goes through the motions on both ends, but that shouldn't surprise anyone here.

    Ribbit :)

Ps: I speak from experience on the buyer end of that. I was NARU"D because I had all kinds of problems and wasn't getting any help from Ebay so I said the heck with it and let them NARU me to fix all my problems. This time around, I know the ropes a little better but even now, Ebay still won't do much to help. I had a shrill thingy occur to me and I reported it and Ebay wouldn't do anything about it and it was so obvious it had occurred. I'm thinking of telling the seller I will only pay the high bid amount where the shrill bidder stepped in and ran my bid up because no one but them bid and they stopped bidding right at my bid, exactly at my bid and with 30 seconds to go and out of their 21 bids to date, 9 of them were on that one item running my bid up a little at a time until they max'd my bid out.

Know one thing, Ebay is in it for the bucks and nothing more! If they busted that seller for shrill bidding, they'd lose the comission so I lose because if it. I say the heck with it and will offer the seller the $125.00 the bid was at before the shrill bidder ran my bid up and if they won't take it, they can leave me a negative and that will be the end of it.

Thanks Mark for getting NARU'd to try and do something about dishonest sellers on Ebay and I look forward to seeing you running around under an alias shortly. :D
