I've been looking for a nice (EF-40 or AU) 1926-S Buffalo to put in my Dansco album and saw this auction listing. Just look at the blurred images of this slabbed NGC coin and the slab reverse. Unless I've had one drink too many, there's no way to make out the certification number to look it up. I smell a rat instead of a Buffalo. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/283617560583
I can't figure it out. Tried a few numbers, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what the 4th digit is. It looks like a "P" I was thinking 189_385-091
In addition to better photos I would also ask why is the label on the back of the holder scratched off. He doesn't have much for sale but the other photos are a lot better than the one of the nickel. You can also get the opinion of a NGC expert for authentication. There's a fee for this service but I'm not sure if they charge if they can't authenticate it. I wouldn't bid on it without more info.
That's what got me scratching my head. For a coin as valuable as this one a seller would definitely want good pictures.
Someone slapped a bid on it with those photos. Someone is gambling to get it cheap and take the gamble. Wouldn't be surprised if there's still a bid war with those photos.
I just put a bid of $45 on it. Just want to see how high it goes. (Someone bid more than I did as it automatically was outbid). I also contacted the seller.
How can you tell? The photo is so out of focus, you can't tell if the slab or coin is genuine. Bad photo = "Run Forest run!" Further more they are quoting PCGS prices on an "NGC graded" coin. There is something rotten in Denmark ... and on eBay.
I sent the seller a message about getting clearer photos and the certification number. So far silence, telling me that something is rotten in Denmark.
That's the strange part. The close-ups seem to validate the grade of XF-45; strong date and full horn. However, there's no way to verify that the coin in the close-ups is the same as the one in the blurry full slab images. I still haven't received a response from my message to the seller. For fifty bucks I'd probably take a chance that it's legit; for $500+, no way.
