I received an e-mail notification of the silver eagle for sale . The picture showed the 2008 W with the 2007 reverse. I thought this was kind of strange. Well it was kind of accurate, some people did get the coin actually pictured but not me.
Here are mine ... all 6 of them with the 2007 reverse!! My picture is a comparison of a 2008 bullion (not W mint) ASE with the 2008 reverse (top coin) and a 2008 W ASE with the 2007 reverse (bottom coin).:kewl:
Saw that same thing! Didn't think anyone would pick that up. Would anybody like to part with one of their multiple ASE coins? Drop me a PM. Hint, Hint, Hint Komka and Eyeluvzcoins.
I got my 4/18 order from the Mint today. I was 0-for-10 for getting a 2007 variety. That makes me 0-for-20 altogether for my Mint purchases. :headbang: That's about how my luck usually runs so the only 2 that I own are the ones I paid $150 and $325 for (NGC MS69 and NGC MS70, respectively.)
I find it interesting how coins that are MS70 sell for so much more than those at MS69 100s more sometimes.
Not really, they probably "photoshopped" in the 2008 image and a stock silver eagle reverse image without bothering to note that the hub was for a different tyoe.
Well, I just had to try my luck and I ordered 2 more on 4/25. I got them today and........:hail:  both are the 2007 reverse! As soon as I opened my shipping box I looked at the bottom of the coin boxes and I knew I had the 2007 reverses. Someone on another forum posted that all their 2007 reverses had the upc label on the bottom of the coin box, and the regular reverses have the upc label on the side of the coin box. Also, the boxes for the reverse of 2007 coins come in a slightly shorter and thicker box. For everyone who got the reverse of 2007 variety coin, can you confirm that the coin came in a box with the upc label on the bottom of the box instead of on the side of the top cover of the box? Good luck to everyone who is still trying to get one or more from the Mint! I'm 2-for-22 from the Mint, but it was my last order that was the lucky one.
You are right on both accounts. I have 4 2007 reverses and 4 standard 2008's. The boxes and lables are as you discribed. I also checked the packaging against my 2007 silver eagles and they are packaged the same as the 2008's with the reverse errors, upc lable on top and shorter box. I guess you get the 2007 reverse and the 2007 box too.
I recieved 6 out of 6 boxes of the 2008 ASE with the 2007 reverse, but, the Z8F Label is on the side of the lid on all of them, not the bottom of the box. I don't think the label placement determines the type of 2008 ASE you got at all.dd: :goofer: Laura
Thanks Laura. I guess that means that it was not an easy task for the distribution center to identify and separate the 2007 reverses from the 2008s.
had 1 in my hand two different times I had an 08 with 07 rev in my hand at a shop in Frandor MI 2 wks ago. I am VERY NEW to coins, so I thought it was weakly struck and picked another 08 with correct 08rev Went back later that week and l had another in hand and managed to make the mistake of telling them about the error as I was looking before i realized i left my wallet at home. When I got back the next day they had gone through all of them (even in the birtday cases) and removed ones with 07 rev. Now I am on a vendetta mission to find one at or around regular price so I can show my grandpa. He finds the humor in it more than I do. Guess thats how it goes sometimes.
Good luck with your quest. I would guess that the only way you will find one of these coins at list price is to buy it from someone who is not aware of the variety. Just look on ebay, these are going for anywhere between $200-400. But there is hope for you....apparently there now appears to be a third variety to be had. The hunt is now on!
I got my 2008 reverse W-ASE today and it really does look like the 'poor-mans-proof' version that someone has mentioned. I'll take pics of both coins side my side later on.
