Nothing valuable, but different.

Meow was blessed with a huge amount of pennies cashing out a friend. Nothing really good so far, but Meow did find a greaser that is a bit different from anything Meow has CRH so far. The lettering is completely missing, and the adjacent letters are bold as it should be. This is not the very common weak strike above the memorial type. Just wanted to share.

Pretty cool Meow. I personally think these kind of errors are going to become more collectable as time goes on.BWDIK

Meow thought it was a bit uncommon for a penny to be completely devoid of some letters. Most greasers show at least a faint impression of the intended lettering.

Nice find. I do not normally keep Struck Through grease errors, but if I found this one I think I would have to put it in a 2x2 and it would find a home in my LMC errors pages.

I'm hoping you are wrong or I think the hobby is going to go the way of stamp collecting.
You have built an impressive collection of "true mint error" coins and have become an expert in the field, but I think if you look at New collectors coming into the hobby, we will see changes happening in regards to error coins
With the advent of Single Striking Hub dies.....it has pretty much done away with the true Doubled Die Variety, Making the Machine Doubling and Grease Strikes about the only game in town for new collectors without deep pockets, wanting errors to collect. If you look at the solds for grease strike coins on eBay, you will see there
is a market for them already. Even if they aren't "True Mint Errors." When it's about the only game in town, you play it.

It does seem to be a market for them. Nice example of grease like the penny in the thread are fairly hard to come by. Most greasers Meow finds just make the details a bit muddy, and the open fields radiating with an outward pattern. Meow has found many muddy ATB quarters CRH.

Also found a market for machine doubled dies. I think this market will only get stronger.

I have read and understood your opinion. So I will respect it. But my concern at looking at many of those coins on ebay with the prices they go for.. They are completely ludicrous! I laugh when I see simple issues on coins that to my knowledge should not have any premium over face value.. It's a robbery! I know that hobby of mint error collecting will never die out such as stamp collecting. Others that I know and Myself do our best to promote it. Have you ever heard of CONECA? I'm a member. It's a good source for new error collectors. There is a way if learning all about error collecting but ebay is NOT the answer.

    Thank you for your input.
While I agree that eBay is not the way to go for learning about errors, it is a way to see what is actually selling in a confusing market.

The Coneca site and The other sites devoted to errors are indeed a good source, however, it is far over the heads of new collectors just starting out. In the example below (1973 D Kennedy) , there is very little that a new collector can glean from it. What exactly does "extra Thickness" mean ? The Letters are thicker then normal? How would you Identify that. Are there any pictures that might help a new collector understand what to look for? Everything under " can be found in mint sets" would be greek to anybody new and just trying to learn the errors game.
Even after going through the extensive glossary of terms.

Meow, You mentioned the grease fill on the reverse and you showed the obverse, but no mention of the severe overpolishing of the obverse die?

Oh, it did not seem all that much of a big deal considering. The penny is full brown so the polish marks don't show up well. On a BU penny, an over polish is much more dramatic looking.

The fact the front of the coat is almost separated from the rest of the bust is fairly impressive. Not valuable, but impressive.

Well Meow does see that way more often than a penny with completely missing lettering. The penny also has a nice patina on it. A bit purplish, but it does not show on Meow's camera well.

    Just to say...
While I tend to cringe at your use of your Meow in your messages, I have to say I do see you have great respect for your coins and your knowledge is deep, and you still keep learning. I do like that in you.

Never said they had to be listed anywhere as "true errors" I just said that more and more people will find them interesting, and be willing to pay an affordable premium to add them to their collections. Some coins with die chips and machine doubling are already being sold for more then FV. I would not be surprised to see that trend continue.
