Now I’ve seen it all!!! - Rick Harrison signed NGC labels

Caught an HSN episode this weekend featuring NGC graded coins with photo and signature of Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame. It was for a silver ASE MS 69 “continuation” offering at $79 per coin - that is $20 more than their “exclusive flag core” label of the coin in the same grade at $59 per coin. Are you kidding me??? Now I’ve really seen it all.....

Do you prefer Chum-Lee ? I would prefer to deal with Rick than anyone else that I've seen on the show. The old man (RIP), Cory, or especially Chum.
I wonder how much History channel pays them, or the pickers, Counts customs etc... I'm guessing a lot of .

 

I would watch the show if it was truly authentic. Their after the fact knowledge just doesn't do anything for me.

 

Yep, they are scripted, directed, rehearsed, etc... but sometimes fun and informative.

 

Anything for a fast buck. This is from 2014 ABC news article:

“A man whose $50,000 coin collection was first stolen, then hocked, cannot recover it from Las Vegas' famous "Pawn Stars"pawn shop. Reason: The hock shop claims it melted the coins down.”

“Explains Silver and Gold's spokesperson, Laura Herlovich, "In a fast-moving shop, particularly our shop, because of its fame, you move things quickly." When coins come in, she says, they typically are in plastic cases, with a value already assigned them by a grader.

"We go through them," says Herlovich. "If the grader is not someone we trust, the cases are cracked open and the coins are sent out to be melted down. That was the case here. I don't know for sure, but I believe a majority were melted down.”

Why honor a man who melts coin collections for quick money.

 

Many dealers send their cudds in for for melting, along with jewelry, etc... if they don't think it'll sell as is. I can't see them scrapping actual collector coins of any value though. I'd like to know what was in the collection, and who put the value on it. But PMs get sent to be melted for scrap very often, by many store owners.

 

In a legitimate world they have police reports and they know what's stolen.
Also, they don't melt the stuff down themselves. You have to accumulate a certain amount before sending it to the smelter. The fact that they claim they bought this and then immediately melted it is just another inaccuracy (lie) they have perpetrated. In one show he tells a customer, "You know there wasn't any baseball during World War 2." Why wouldn't they edit that out? Of course there was baseball all during WW2. Many players were in the military and the quality of play was affected. But all the games, seasons and World Series' were played.
Apart from the scripted nature of this show, these people are lowlife, bottom feeding dirt bags. Rick dropped out of high school to sell counterfeit purses.

Anything to let these weasels make money. Our hobby is in a sour state right now.

 

Why would NGC recognize Mr. Harrison? What has he contributed to the numismatic community? I can think of many others who has done much more to promote this area of interest. Just an attempt to sell more overpriced common items.

 

His signature should make those coins be worth less.

 

He did say that he personally selects the coins and signs all the labels by hand - that should justify the 25% premium - LOL. Maybe a Chumley label would bring even more.

The grading companies are making buckets of money ruining the hobby I’ve loved for many years.

 

They also said they had two complete sets, at MS-70.
They wanted 50,000.00 dollars a set .
