well, the info is located on the picture. it says " 1904 5 rupees Afghanistan". its 45mm. an 1849 5 francs is 39mm and fits right inside it.
Picked up a few new world silvers from @lordmarcovan A Panama 1/4 Balboa & my first silver coin from Poland. Both are better dates.
I might go VF30-35 to be conservative, but you could make a case for XF, I suppose. It's pretty close. Lovely coin, regardless of the technical grade.
Another ANA Convention coin...,,.. A tiny nick above the second "O" in OrO is the only thing keeping it from 66 or even 67.
Love it. I have always liked this type anyway, though I didn't know they struck gold coins with this "retro" design! My birthyear, too.
Nothing outstanding but pleased to pick up these two in a job lot today. The 1859 Penny is the small date version. The 1822 Ireland Halfpenny is in pretty good condition compared to most I have seen.
Just got this at last weekends Stephen Album sale. I don't really collect these but something about it spoke to me. Lot listing photos and description. If it looks better in hand I may have gotten it for a steal. JAPAN: Keio, 1865-1868, lead 200 mon (119.69g), Yonezawa, Dewa Province, H-6.38, JNDA-139.13, 47x54mm, sei san kyoko (Production Bureau) at right, Fine, R. These lead coins were minted in Yonezawa in Dewa Province, probably around 1866. At this time, the Samurai class found their occupation gone, and in many cases were in great distress. A society was formed under local government supervision to give them aid, and these coins were issued to them.
Mintage of 27,000 which means they are fairly available near melt. Nice ones a little more, but not much. I've always liked the design too, including the reverse which includes a different version of the coat of arms than usually seen on the other 100 Soles coins. The following year, they struck another 100 Soles commemorative, this one for the 100th anniversary of the Spain/Peru Naval battle. It has considerably lower mintage at 6,253 (per Krause) and always has a pretty stiff premium attached to it, though there is a silver 20 Soles with a mintage of only 4,001 that sells for under $25 even in MS65. Go figure! For whatever reason it is seen more often than the 1966 Lima Mint Anniversary 20 Soles with a mintage of 150,000. silver
OK not the greatest coin in the world but this 1683 Charles II Shilling is the first time I have filled a gap in this series for several years. Shillings from his reign seem particularly scarce - this is only my fourth date.
