Is this what is referred to as the double ear loaf? Not really into this Lincoln penny but pretty sure that's the dangling thing I'm always hearing about. Was just going through my toned coins and came across this 88. Its just a spender correct? Plus it's dirty and looks like some damage, the ring goes all the way around. You have my word to no backtalk ✌️. I'm asking not trying to convince. I have never seen one and I am positive someone here has.
I'm sure you mean lobe, not loaf. Curious about where you got the information about the Lincoln lobes??? It amazes me that so many folks hear this and think they have one. Probably just post mint damage (PMD), but I'd really like to know where you heard of this error. Not intended to offend you.
I either read it or seen it on you tube, where else!! I am already a certified you tube mechanic . But whatever the case it said something about this being one of the 88 variety coins. Problem is if it's DD I am not seeing the doubling anywhere else and wouldn't I? I mean if it doubled in the ear then surely it would double on of the other devices, correct? Oh and yes I meant to say loaf, was trying to keep it on the lighter side this evening, I personally have way to much going on. This just takes my mind to other places that I prefer to be right now. Glad I could crack a smile. Thought this was better shot of his wheat loaf I mean ear love.
Many types of worthless (basically) doubling. Easy to be fooled. I suggest not watching u-tube videos. They tend to give a lot of false information to benefit themselves, not the viewer.
I was kinda getting the feeling that you tube is a waste of time. I guess next step is ordering some books. The blue book I have does not have much information in it basically just a price guide. Thanks for the update though!
YouTube strives to make money off of hits, clicks, likes, whatever they call them this nanosecond. To do that, they will promise riches, instant riches, riches you don't have to work for, riches that just fall in your hand because neither the cashier nor the bank teller know any better, riches riches riches riches. Just reference the handy phrase 'click bait.' That phrase defines the essence of YouTube. Many people get lured by the promise of instant riches. This trick has worked well for centuries. So people keep doing it. Lately it takes the form of YouTube clicks. It will take many other forms before oblivion sets in.
Here is a photo from coppercoins.com where you can search the different DDO,DDR, etc. They have a great site and the more one uses it, the better they will get to ID such. Jim
Books are very good if they have good photos. Once a person visits and understands how to use coin websites, they have more knowledge on tap than dozens of books, but they can't be pandering sites such as YooTub (sp.) , they have to be serious. For cents, the previous Coppercoins is great as is http://www.lincolncentresource.com/, and many others. Be aware finding true varieties and errors are strongly related to their value. Those easy to find~ cheap, those hard to find ~ moderate, hundreds, those extremely rare ~ thousands of $$. So do not expect every tiny variation to be of great value unless someone is selling something. Jim
Great information there thanks for that. Yes I have joined heritage auctions so usually the first place I hit up which this coin could not be found reason I wasn't really sure. Someone posted a great picture that looks very similar to the one I have. It may be worth 50 bucks or something. That's cool. Thanks to everyone for the information.
