One of the ladies has been looking for Star notes for me, in order to offer her a fair amount for the bill - what would you say a 1999 Series note Serial Number D 03295877 would be worth? You alls best guess would be sufficient. By the way it is in pretty decent shape, not crisp - but no fold marks. Maybe she will let me take it home tonight for a picture. She has been looking for months and finally found one.
here at work, all my coworkers look at their notes for stars, i always give them 50 cents to a dollar. In some instances they might be getting jipped ... but both parties are alwasy happy.. i get a star, and they get more money they they had to begin with. None of my coworkers collect, so they dont care if a note has a star on it or not ...
Short answer is it's worth whatever someone's willing to pay... generally stars contain more of a premium the better condition it's in, the lower the serial it is (or if it's a fancy number like a radar or repeater) and just how rare the particular series is. Age doesn't have much to do with it directly, but the older it is the rarer it will be in higher condition. Having several bills in sequential serial number order is always a plus. A fairly recent star note in decent but not great condition with not much special about the serial... could probably get about double face value or so on eBay I suppose. Hard to say... depends on if you can find a motivated buyer or not. A series with less than a million printed may even go for a little more.
Darn - I don't think I am going to get it. She will probably save it for her son - which is fine with me. I did not realize her father has been buying rolls of stuff and giving them to her and her sister. Her father is not a collector per se, but sounds more like a hoarder. She says he has jugs of change with silver halves, quarters and etc. So no telling what he has. She knew I collected and I did not learn until today about her father. I knew she was buying the state quarter sets from the mint, but I also think her father gives her rolls of the presidential dollars. By the way - I have worked with her for at least 15 years. LOL - a closet collector.
