Looks like a Tetradrachm of Arados in Phoenicia. With the wear the weight seems OK. The soldered loop looks quite old, and back in the day worn coins like this probably wouldn't have been worth much, or worth faking. It looks authentic to my untrained eye.

These were year dated (196 of their era) and had other mint symbols I do not understand (magistrates?). The ID's given were correct but the one here matches the coin. I do not understand where CNG got the year 202. Someone better than I, please explain. The one below is correct at year 197 but says the second letter is retrograde. It is a perfectly normal qoppa or the Greek letter for 90.

I have almost no doubt the coin is genuine. The slightly amateur soldered loop adds to its believe-ability in my opinion. I suggest you not even think of removing it.

I agree with Doug—definitely keep the loop.

General rule: There are many things people do to coins that they should not but that, once done, only get worse when we try to cover up what was done. The coin has a loop and a lot of scratches. Clipping and polishing would make it twice as bad. It is not a great rarity and will not bring any great sum no matter what you do. I wonder what the loop adder did with the coin. Was it on a watch fob? On a chain around his neck (or his wife's neck as a way of thanking her for tolerating his hobby???)? The loop is now part of history.

Genuine, and a good grade for jewelry. Since it already has a loop, if you want to wear it with a chain take to to a shop and they can straighten the loop within a few seconds. Would be a nice wearable piece.
