I just got this coin in the mail today. I know it can be hard to tell over a photo, but can anyone tell me if this coin seems polished or otherwise cleaned, i contacted the seller, and he said "In his professional opinion" its not, but you know.
    Thanks

I don't see signs of polishing on this coin. I see quite a few contact marks, but it looks good.

I would say that it is not polished. There are many tell tale signs of polishing and this doesn't have those. Search for that on Coin Talk and you will be able to see very clearly what a good polishing looks like. You have a very nice coin and I would be happy to add it to my collection!

Cropped images posted full size are so much more helpful.

Agreed! If anyone has a really nice photo of a polished coin to post I think it would benefit @Jason is new to see it! I don't have any or I would. It's pretty obvious. Once you see one, you can never unsee one!

This is a great example of a coin with serious hairlines - and how different photo angles can hide them!

Here is a great example of a Peace - notice how the hairlines go up and over the top of the lettering in the closeup:

I don't remember exactly which problem it listed, but it was a details slab. "polished" or "hairlines" I think.

Not so much polishing, but more of a harsh cleaning........

I would call it a harsh cleaning as well. I think of polishing having more of a mirror look.

You're saying more of this sorta look? To many people, "harsh cleaning" and "polishing" mean roughly the same thing. I understand that some people do make a distinction. That's why I prefer the use of "hairlines" for the 21 Peace shown above, as opposed to the Roosie here - which I might refer to as polished. For reference, I applied a paste of baking soda with a couple of drops of water, and then vigorously rubbed with my thumb. Kinda like ancient folks might have brushed their teeth. On the left is the original, on the right is the polished coin - it was super shiny, but devoid of life. In hand, it was clearly altered.
