@lordmarcovan, great update! Again, you never disappoint,...well sometimes you do, but then you immediately make up for it. A net gain I would say!

Look, we've all (well, most of us) have had to do the "debt" thing. In my younger days I liquidated my beloved Corvette...(a decision I came to regret dearly)...but I've had other great cars since. :singing:

    Keep on keeping on! ;):cigar:

I'm glad to see you posting--hopefully that means you are back home. I also think it's a good decision to keep your ancients in a slab. Some of them are so tiny, I'd worry they would get lost if they were out of a slab. Plus in a slab it's a LOT safer to let little kids and even some less-than-careful adults look at them.

It's one of my favorites and probably my favorite ancient that I now own. I'm glad you let me give it a new home and be its custodian for awhile.

LM, you got some nice coins man. I was looking for that Victoria copper, did not see it. Here is a neat one I got recently, not yet positively identified. Some kind of Indo-Sasanian AR drachm. I seem to recall you fancying one of these some time back. I have lately gone nuts over ancient Indian coins. 224-561 Indo-Sasanian 1 d obv-006-horz.jpg

    Me too.

I can't wait to see it. Though I've owned it a few weeks, I have yet to.

It went from CNG to @Aethelred, who was bidding on my behalf, and from his shop to PCGS, from whom there should be a grade and TrueView picture soon.

Then back to him...and eventually here.

It will be a very well-traveled coin. And just in the last month or two- never mind the 444 years before that.

LordM, between you & @jamesicus, I'm having to really reconsider my collecting philosophy! (I could never totally abandon my US coins, but geez, you guys have some incredible specimens!):singing::cigar:;)

The nice thing about an "eclectic" set is that you don't have to abandon your US coins. You can collect whatever catches your fancy, "freestyle"! Mix it up some. Walk a few roads less traveled. Stick to what you're passionate about, but also expand those horizons and explore some new areas at the same time.

The "Box of 20" thing takes some discipline, though, and a bit of detachment. I held to that standard for three years, as you know, but finally dropped that limitation in 2016. It was a useful experience, though, and fun. It just gets really tough to limit one's self to just twenty coins.

I'm seeing this as a way to whittle things down to something more manageable, while maintaining a quality collection. I do have areas I would like to upgrade & at the same time, I do need to decide on the future of my current collection & it's divestiture. This is looking more like the optimum solution.:happy::happy:

I have reconfigured the "Bygones" gallery in the intro into an "Eclectic Box all-time" gallery, which shows everything that has been in the collection since 2013; both the current lineup and all the "bygones" (sold coins).

If I'd had the money to keep all these at the same time, boy, it would it have been an impressive collection.

Lizzie just went VF35 at PCGS, though the TrueView images are not yet showing on the cert page as of this post. Exactly as expected. A respectable grade, considering this was the best I could do on my budget.

They get quite pricey in higher grades, of course. Anyway, I'd rather have a nice VF with this look than a lot of the somewhat higher-grade ones I've seen with different coloration.

I don't, and am not, but I like the idea, and the ideal. :)

That's what made me pick out that coin (and its twin, which went MS65 at PCGS). Got them from @Mark Metzger. I gather he came across a small handful. I dunno if they were sets, but I believe he had several of the different denominations.
