Tah-dah! With a Barber dime and Barber quarter from ToughCoins, my 20th Century type set is done. I had forgotten how fun it is to fill the holes.:woot:

Looks like all nice original Barber coinage with “the look.” Well done!

Thanks! The only other Barber coins I own are three proofs. I think I could get into a full-blown collection.

Sold a smidgeon of bullion today at a B&M and a Washie caught my eye. Kicking myself a little for having passed on so many of these toners back in the day… Here I am too, picking up Washington’s again (like I need any more) after promising myself I was done… They hit me hard on the price too… ugh

I can’t do the coin justice w/ my photos. Obverse is laced w/ color and encompassing the spectrum. In hand, it’s far more impressive. Gosh, it’s nice. Obverse fields are very clean. There are some minor hits on portrait’s cheek/neck/bust which you’d need 5X magnification to observe. Reverse is basically void of any distractions and contains far more color in hand than the photos suggest.

Coin exhibits a great deal of original luster. I’d have agreed w/ NGC’s grade a decade ago. This was the grading standard I assembled my collection under. However, I think today’s standard would merit at least a 65 or maybe a *. Doesn’t matter that much to me because I don’t purchase coins as investments. Grading, in general, really intrigues me though. This coin has a very weak strike which isn’t quite as bad in hand, but it’s still quite soft. Cool coin I overpaid for, but I’m in this for the enjoyment. So sick and tired of the “price/value” stuff on here, lately. We sound like a bunch of chiselers. This one books at under $20 lol and I love it, obviously.

Dang, are you serious? A 1795 silver dollar? :greedy: I purchased a counterfeit a few years back for educational purposes because, at the time, there were a rash of postings on CCF where people were seeking info on their great-grandad’s coin, which they inherited. Of course, they were all counterfeit, and some were laughably crude. It seems that nearly all of them were dated 1795.

Today's acquisitions. Trying to complete the El Cazador Shipwreck set and, well, I'm just a sucker for these silver art bars....

Cool idea, I didn’t realize it was a “set.” Do you have a link that lists the coins in it? I’ve always found shipwreck coins intriguing but never bought one.

Well, it's not officially a "set" and there is no link. Just based on the info I've found, it seems there were 1/2 real, 1 Real, 2 Reales & 8 Reales coins recovered from the ship. Just trying to get one of each.

There are some oddball dates in there as well. Those usually go for a much higher premium. I have a couple decent ones from this wreck, I’ll have to dig them out sometime. My Wife got them for a good price a few years ago.

If you enlarge the images you can see the overall granularity and that the surfaces have been messed with to smooth them out. and the 2 "fang marks" on the neck.
