This is not my most valuable coin, but it's one of my favorites. At one time I hoped to get an example of every U.S. coin disign, even if I could not get every type. The 1795 Eagle has the same small eagle on the reverse as the half eagle. Therefore finding this coin pleased me very much.

It was fate. I was at the Baltimore coin show and a dealer was putting this coin out in his case. He had the bottom of the slab on the velvet when I asked to see it. It took me about 30 seconds to know that this was right piece for me. I never committed to an expensive coin so quickely. It is a PCGS AU-55.

 

Now that's a coin to brag about John. The 9 leaves is really special.

 

I was never a huge Barber guy. But these could certainly change my mind. Wow.

I misled you. That is a 1795 half Eagle, not an eagle.

 

What would be the diagnostic that would tell me if this were an Eagle or a half Eagle?

Day in and day out, you post really eye-appealing coins!

 

Mostly size for most collectors. Merchants weighted these coins. If it was underweight, you didn’t get face value. There was no mark of value on any of the very early gold coins. The edges were reeded. They were too thin for edge lettering.

 

Oh, just 75K.

 

Can I go again? I'm going to go again, because I have too many favorites.

The first is a Franklin that I bought as 65FBL, but then got upgraded to 65+* FBL.

The second is an Indian that I bought as 65 (from Rick Snow with an Eagle Eye sticker), but then got upgraded to 65+ PL (and is ex QDB).

 

Grumpy old man tonight, but that Stone Mountain (tribute to the soldier of the south, and forget you politically correct folks. You make me sick. You're like Nazis with the 'book burning') History happened. It's part of our history, and for anyone to tear down statues or deny the history of generals, you're denying American History. It's nothing to do with 'race'.

I agree. We have laws that protect historic houses but nothing to protect great works of art about our history as a country. Those that tear down statues should be removed from office. They need jobs that have nothing to do with running our country.

 

I have a few, but not all are on my phone. This one is PCGS MS66+ and used to be the PCGS CoinFacts plate coin. The image has since disappeared entirely from PCGS CoinFacts, which makes me a little sad, but I get to look at it every day if I want to, so not that sad.
