Bought this one slabbed quite awhile back. But it is free now. Be free, free, free! Not my favorite coin in my type set, but it'll do. It's my only 20-cent piece. Pictures are from the TPG. Tell me what grade you think it is, and then tell me what grade you think was given to it.
With no experience in this series but looking at an ANA grading book, I give it a VF20 but it was graded VF30.
I suppose it's a Fine-12. It's got four letters of the "LIBERTY" which is a diagnostic. I imagine that the TPG graded it VF-20, but there is a lot of wear on the reverse. Here is a raw one I bought for an exhibit so that I could place it side-by-side with a Seated Quarter. I'd grade this one EF-40
I was also at F-12. If all coins were graded on the same scale then VG-08/ VG 10. But this isn't the case and considering the series, F-12.
Sorry, I'll refrain from upstaging them, if you think that's what I'm doing. I thought people wanted to learn how to grade this series, which is not that easy. If you think I always post superior coins, check out this gem, which I just posted in the ancient coin area.
I see no reason to give your coin a "details grade." My "EF-40" could get "a details grade" because of the stain on the reverse. They could call it "environmental damage."
I don't think anything really suggests details from the pictures (and I wouldn't personally call it details). It's just something I thought was a possibility based on how the original question was framed. If it did get a details grade, my guess would be cleaned.
