Saw this guy on the ol' bay Do you think this large is a 1798 or 1799? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1798-POSSIBLY-1799-LARGE-CENT-VERY-RARE/193050681983?hash=item2cf2b7a27f:g:MmEAAOSwhkJdVcmB
If you need an electron microscope to see the date, it's generally dateless. And watch out for some of the sellers items, the Combibar is overpriced.
Anybody who marks their coins "very rare" or "ultra rare" and then shows coins of this quality or like his other nickels that are about as "ultra rare" as a banana you would buy in your local grocery store. I think i'd just move on to other more reliable sellers who more accurately mark their coins.
Who cares what the date is. The coin is so awful that it's hard to imagine who would want it. Someone working on a PCGS low-ball collection perhaps?
That seller has a roll of 1974 cents he says is rare. Since the coin in question is "extremely rare," then it's gotta be worth twice as much as the roll of cents.
Not 1799's. If you could prove this was a 1799, even in this condition it would be several hundred dollars (an AG will bring $1K or more.) Unfortunately I think it is an 18 something
