I have this penny for about 5 years i thought it was a proof penny faded . but the other day I started looking at it closer and a magnet stuck to it, is this a 1984 d steel penny ? You can go on YouTube and see video. type (Rare 1984 D sticks to a magnet )

Most likely plated with nickel (pure nickel is magnetic), then something else.

They sell magic coins at magician shops that are specially plated. I own one. That coin probably was lost by a magician. Not a mint error of any kind.

It copper plated you can see it in the pictures, so in 1984 they put nickel and copper and zinc together ?

Some novelty magic company created it. I repeat I own magic shop coins such as yours.. It is NOT a mint error.

Nope. The mint made it from copper-coated zinc, then somebody else got the coin, plated it with nickel, and re-plated it with copper.

It has the same weight as a copper and zinc penny the exact weight

The soft mushy appearance is a strong indication that you have a coin that was plated after it left the mint. Plating doesn't add much weight and if you don't have an accurate, calibrated scale, or it only measures to 0.1 gms, you might not pick up the change. Also, a cent has a weight tolerance of +/- 4%. So the coin could have originally been on the light side of the weight distribution to start with.

Finally, you need to explain how this could occur at the mint. The minting process is well documented and many members on CT are very knowledgeable in this area. The bottom line is that there is no way for a magnetic material to make its way into a planchet of the correct size and weight then being struck. It can't happen. It would be the equivalent to opening up your Big Mac box and finding a Whopper inside.

    Hope this helps

IMG_20190831_213459.jpg IMG_20190831_214131_STEREO.jpg IMG_20190831_215854.jpg I took the picture in a plastic cover so it look fuzzy mushy , and around the edges are really thick, here are two coins 1960 D B missing in Liberty and the 1984 d ,also coins I found since I been collecting coins these are my weird ones. See how bigger the plated one are ? There a lot error coins out ! So the mint wasn't doing to good of a job catching all the errors . You maybe right but this is a cool penny if it is plated after the mint. I haven't seen any like this ? I think it been struck on to different coin planchet. Thank you for your help

This is why I love this site. I had no clue of the magnetic coins like this. Thank you folks for the education on this. Collecting for over 50 years and still learning
