I was going to toss my roll of 86-D Lincolns on ebay. Tubed coins that I've had forever. Actually forgot that I had them. I decided to take a look at theh quality of the coins and found this. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/dd10.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/dd60.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/dd200.jpg I have an older copy of the RPM book that stops at 1989. Not finding this one. Any help/opinions or clembo your an idiot would be appreciated. Well, maybe not the clembo you're an idiot Pics are at 10X, 60X and 200X. clembo
clembo, I don't think that it is an RPM! It looks more like a Copper Plating problem in which the Plating separates from the Zinc Core in and around design elements and/or Lettering and/or Date and/or Mint Mark during the striking. Frank
I carry this one in my wallet. Doesn't everyone? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/andorian.jpg clembo
That's definately what's going on to the lower right of the MM, I see them all the time roll searching but is there something inside the D? looks like there may be something there in which case it could be an RPM. They're out there... http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/dietype.php?date=1986&die_mint=d&die_type=mm&page=0 (only the last two on page 3 have images)
As previously mentioned, it is a plating issue where sometimes the plating shifts when the coin is being struck.
ive seen a lot of coins like this one clembo .. if its a real RPM then i could be rich seriosly though .. i never knew what it was for sure, but seeing so many of them... i figured they werent much to keep. Especially once the edges of what looks like a doubled MM started turning green.
