Well that's two things that made me doubt it as a true error. Her age being what it is, any quarters minted the year she was born were minted at a time where a head/head or tail/tail mule would have been impossible. Even if it was possible... the fact that it doesn't have the same date on BOTH sides (suggested by the fact that mention ONE side is dated from her year of birth) makes it so unlikley as to pretty much be impossible... why would two differently dated obverse dies even be anywhere near each other at the same time? Unless it was towards the end of the year, and they were minting next year's coinage already... if they're more than one year apart though, forget it, it's just a magician's coin. I'm still wondering about the "authentication." Technically, a magician's coin is made from two genuine coins, and if that's all they were looking for to call it "authentic" maybe that's what they meant... she probably has parts of two genuine coins there... just extremely unlikely that it's an authentic error. Edit: Wrote what I did above before seeing that picture lol... not only is it just a magician's coin, but apparently only half of one. The other side of it looks to be missing. I hope someone knowlegable breaks the news to her gently before she embarasses herself trying to sell it. But she shouldn't be expected to know any better... at this point a bunch of people who should have already known, or at least been diligent enough to research it and figure it out, have been fooled by something that is obviously not a genuine error. Including professional news reporters! Those are the people that should be deservedly embarrased by this.
That was very funny except for the fact that that is what you get with a government run media. Let's hope we're not heading in that direction. Bruce
Well, I dont know about that. Didnt someone post a video clip of ABC news reporting on a two headed quarter? Verified authentic? The media can screw up quite well without government interference.
Not sure why all the fuss. Aliens need money too you know. And if they landed in Porto Rico, no reason to make fun of their coinage. And as to the 2 headed quarter. Not to valuable since there is a store a few blocks from me that sells all kinds of them. One is even a Dime on one side and a cent on the other. Dime keeps falling out though.
I think it was coincommunity that I read discussing this, but I think the girl does have a legitamit error coin, just not a two headed quarter. They aren't accurately describing what she has. Based on what little you could see of the quarter, I believe it was a full Brockage. I'm not fully up to date on these types of errors, so forgive me if I describe this wrong, but This quarter was struck by the obverse die, and another quarter that was stuck to the reverse die, thus leaving a reverse image of washington where the reverse should be. It may be legit as it was struck in the collar and if it is authenticated to verify it wasn't done with a vice or any other sophisticated methods that involve smashing two normal quarters together. Should be easy as for this to be verified, there should be no evidence of the reverse image.
Actually it was a law changing the name porto rico back to it's original name of Puerto Rico. May17, 1932. ynehyneh ya yneh yneh
Regardless of how you spell that place it makes little difference. There is no one there except American Tourist trying to find a native of that place but they are all here in New York.
Ironically there are about 4 times as many people of Puerto Rican descent living in New York City than there are native residents of Puerto Rico. (2 million in NYC vs only 500,000 in Puerto Rico!)
The island of Puerto Rico has almost 4 million peeps. Are you saying only 1/8 qualify as puertorican? https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/print/rq.html Ribbit Ps: I lived there for 13 years but I'm not puertorican.
