German hyperinflation currency

    Inherited from my grandfather. All were issued in 1923.

    20,000 Marks - February 20, 1923
    100,000 Marks - February 1, 1923
    200,000 Marks - August 9, 1923
    500,000 Marks - March 1, 1923

    Scary yes, but this is nothing compared to the the $50,000,000 notes Zimbabwe is issuing right now.

    There are some superb German notes for this period, have a look at my german collection on Banknote and you will see what I mean :thumb:

    That's very cool. Hang on to them. They're worth more now than they were then.

    they arent worth much even now...but they are nice...Many are printed only on one side, I have a few where they just reprinted a new higher value on a lesser valued bill so they wouldnt have to print new bills.

    I couldn't not imagine living in hyperinflationary period. I have 5 Peso notes from Colombia from the 80's. By the 90's, they were worthless due to 30%+ per year inflation. To watch one's life savings become worthless overnight must be horrific.

    Bonds

    I have a couple of German land bonds from the 20s. Both for for million plus marks.
    Both have coupons attached.
    If I can dig them up and post them, is there anyone on the boards who may have some more info on them?
    The "Standard Catalog of World Stocks and Bonds" doesn't list them and I'm not paying Smythe $80 to tell me they're worth $10 ;)

    Just for kicks and giggles ... i looked in my standard catalog of world paper money books.. all 3 .. and didnt see anything.
