I was poking around on another thread and noticed a PCGS gold shield graded note, and wondered if somehow PCGS made it back in to business , but just under a new label, then found out this was something different, after further exploration, i found the exact same PCGS website now at legacy and then Further surprised that my log in information was identical. All the previously PCGS related notes are there in number, but when you click On the link the file is not found, so the million dollar question are they going To mix the registries, the original PCGS notes and the new Legacy ones ? after all the same person essentially is doing the grading, so why not. I guess it,s just a wait and see.....
Coin World article explaining the change; https://www.coinworld.com/news/precious-metals/pcgs-currency-contract-expires-new-entity-opens.html As far as combining the POP reports and/or Registry sets go, it’s anybody’s guess. Jason Bradford was just temporarily suspended from the PCDA for undisclosed reasons. My understanding is PCGS will start grading paper money again domestically starting Q1 2020.
Its hard to believe that a company as prominent as PCGS, would be gone ! And that Jason Bradford would just let it fall in to such a sad state of Mismanagement , i have met Jason several times at shows and such and he,s really a good guy, but honestly i graded all my notes at shows The lead time to get notes graded by sending them in was a joke !! 6-8 months on a regular submission was the norm and economy could be up to a year...LOL , you would think something like this would be an easy fix ? and where does that leave the reputation of Legacy moving forward ??
PCGS is not gone. The naming rights, leased by K3B (Jason Bradford and two partners) was revoked. Returning the PCGS name back to PCGS-CLCT. Jason Bradford then launched Legacy Currency Grading. PCGS-CLCT has been grading paper money in Asia and Europe for some time now under the name PCGS Gold Shield.
There,s no labels being produced like this or a a relatable registry to compare Have hundreds of PCGS graded notes most 67 or better not one is PCGS gold shield ....LOL, i wonder what there turn around time is ?? Maybe a better move would have been to move the operation on a more local Level.
But basically to get notes graded you are looking at $15-$20 per bill, right ? So unless you have some super-high graded bills (assuming mostly commons, which I have).....you could be out some serious $$$ otherwise. I mean....it doesn't pay to grade my Silver Certificates if they all come back 63-65, right ?
Who is PMG? I've seen a couple of bills on the net that have been graded. How do I get up with them. I have some bills I want graded and in a protecting shield of some sort.
be careful of what you have graded, as a rule grading should only be done To create more value and of course protect your investment, it,s not cheap either !! even the cheapest service, including registered mail will easily set you $90 to $100 bucks, i would be glad to review your notes and give you My opinion
Thanks MPC...appreciate your assistance. My expertise is in the financial markets so if I can reciprocate there, let me know. I'll post pics of what I have but as I said in my SILVER CERTIFICATE thread, mostly what I have are commons (1930's and 1950's SC's, 1963 $1, some $5's and $2's). While some are in great condition at 1st glance, it's unlikely I have any/many above PMG 65 so most are probably $20 - $50, tops. I doubt any/many are going to score 67-69 where the price increase could maybe pay for the whole batch. For $100 or $200 I might risk it, but $1,000-$1,500 or so ? That's serious coin, and right now I am only working PT.
I would perhaps display them or put them in a family album, that way You would have some great memories I will for sure take you up on your offer, sooner rather then later I do have allot of gold coins mostly stick with Kruggers and Queensbeast One thing i am trying to figure out is the premium on the QB,S coins Especially the Red Dragon and more so the Lyon which i cant find for Anything under 2k , and most dealers are offering 5% under spot What wrong with that...LOL
What plan do you utilize for grading and what does it cost per bill ? What types of bill's (i.e., average FMV) are you submitting ?
My last submission to PMG was only 3 notes. Declared value was $900 total. Grading fees were $54, shipping and handling was another $28, for a total of $82. Averaging a little over $27 per note. The values of the notes and service level dictates the pricing. My personal threshold is a minimum of at least $100 per note.
I am planning submitting some World Banknotes to PMG valued over $100 each (Krause CV). My minimum value limit for submitting is $100 for each note.
Why did PCGS revoke the right to use the name ? If there was some nefarious activity by folks, then how do they think they will be able to secure business just by substituting "Legacy" for PCGS ? And why didn't PCGS just license the name to someone else or do it themselves ? I'm sure it was profitable for them, I'll have to check.
