Here are a couple Lincolns I got in the mail today. I thought that I had a good deal, but now I am not so sure. Please tell me what you think of them.

The 1917- is graded MS66 RD by ACG. It is definitely RB, not RD. Based solely on strike and nick, it might make it, but......., well you tell me.

The 1917-D is graded MS65 RD also by ACG. This one might still be RD!?!? Based on the nicks, it could easily be a 65, but it is not the strongest strike probably due to the large die breaks on the back rim (~1:00 to ~3:00 and ~7:00 to ~5:00 ) What do you think the net value would be?

Hard to tell from the glare thru slab pics, but they are both attractive, I like em. Not gems, but nice....they do look original, the 17 more so than the 17-D, but again, these are pics. You have them in hand.

    17 is $35/45 ish
17-D id $110/$120 ish, would be nicer if not for mushy reverse

That is provided the coins are unc and no unseen problems. That is based on my guess and the current sheet, but with the right buyer, I'd say you'd do better cracking them

Edit: We're talking 1917 here, they should be the best lookin Lincolns possible

VEry nice coins! I'll say the first is a 65, chance at a 66 possibly, but easily a 65 IMHO. The second I go a 64, nice coin, but not quite a 65. Very nice coins! :thumb:

Yes, I think that 1917 could once have been a gem BU. Here is a close up I lightened. Can you see the problem now?

I am not sure it is wear. I sure this has never been in circulation, but there definitely a lot of "rub". Ignoring that, I would have no problems with a 65 and would seriously consider a 66. Just dreaming!

As for the 17-D, I would think it would go a little higher than $120 due mostly to the color. I paid less than $100 for it.

Well I like the 17. On the 17-D(it could be the pictures) I do not like the color, it seems washed out or flat to me. I know I have not looked at as many as you guys, but it just does not look as nice as the 17. I have one ACG coin (IHC) that I thought the surfaces looked flat when I got it - now I know why. What ever was used on the coin clearly started the color to fade and change - don't know what chemical they used on it. For that last 6 months it has been sitting in one of my windows - hoping it will eventually turn brown. If I get a chance I will take a picture of it. I got the coin about 2 and 1/2 years ago and it took it about a year to change colors in the holder.

I keep looking at the pic, atleast a dozen times last night and some today as well. Im not too sure exactly what you guys are seeing, but I keep getting drawn back to the spot below Lincolns chin and in front of his throat. And to me it looks like some type of residue.

Pardon my art, but all of the areas I have circledare rubs - apparently from being stored in an album
