I'm aware the condition of these two key dates is less than stellar. Any opinions on whether or not to submit for a grade? 1932 D 1932 S
They're on the holder. They're in 2x2 flips. The pix are cropped for posting purposes. Thank y'all for your confirming opinions. I'm in the same 'don't submit' camp. I got these at a physical auction (not ebay) about 30 years ago. Just reevaluating again.
Those are the only 2 quarters I am missing. My grandpa passed down his collection and I have continued on. He pulled everything from circulation except the 32 D and S.
Good on your gramps for passing down his passion. Best of luck in your quest to get the two key dates.
His passing down his coins turned me into an addict lol. I'm not complaining....just sayin... I will eventually get the 2 dates, they are just out of my price range atm.
Well, I'm in the "send it in" camp, & here's why: Both the '32 D and S are highly prized (each had less than 437,000 minted) & have been faked many times, so if you want to sell them in the future, you will have a much easier time (& get more money) if they are verified genuine (authenticated). I see no reason to believe yours are not genuine, & since even at VG-8 (I think yours are better than that) they are in the $100-$125 range (each). Check some of the sold auctions (ebay, Heritage, etc.) then make a decision. (If you never plan on selling, then just keep them as is.) JMHO How & when did you acquire these?
I got to thinking about it and PlanoSteve is correct these are highly counterfeited so maybe I would send them in but I would wait for ANACS to run a special too save some $$
Thanks Steve. All very valid points. I've never sold any coin I've owned. Ever. The odds of me selling going forward would totally depend on how finances are in retirement. I have no reason to think they'd be anything less than workable. If I submitted them it would be to absorb the TPG cost for my kids. It would also alert them to the rarity of the two coins (beyond my written instructions). Got them in an auction about 1988.
I actually didn't consider it until you mentioned it. Completing the rest of the series would be a walk in the park since I've got the two tough ones. The rest I'd probably look to do mid to high MS though. Then one day upgrade the '32 D&S. Thanks for planting the seed.
Not worth the grading cost but if you want a slabbed coin so you know and can prove it's genuine then it's worth the costs. I would keep them in a flip next to my others that look just like them.
