Thanks Chris. Now what is Krause? 50 years of US coin collecting and my daughter brought this home as a gift for me while on her honeymoon. Not familiar with the term Krause. Thnx
@Steve66 thank you. FYI, no mention of Krause anywhere on that cover Maybe kp is Krause Publications?
Technically that's not a Krause publication per se, but it uses the Krause-Mishler catalog system. You'll note almost every coin has a KM catalog number assigned to it. Some countries, however, have a Y for yeoman. That catalog has the most extensive printed KM database. I do believe Krause was part of the original catalog, but don't quote me on that.
Hi @masterswimmer, I apologize for delay, but I read only now. Mintage is quiet correct, the exact number is 15385 But $ 75 is too high for me. This is a recent ebay auction, and the item was sold for € 36 (around $ 40). https://www.ebay.it/itm/NL-ITALIA-D...037525?hash=item23bb49e515:g:NBkAAOSwupBchonp The seller is a well known and renowed Italian dealer, so his price is surely correct. And also in the past, the prices were around this amount. You can see here some auction results since 1994 https://numismatica-italiana.lamoneta.it/passaggi/W-ITLD/2-10 I hope your daughter did'nt pay too much, unfortunately could be possible in some stores Ciao petronius
Here, you can see other ebay results https://www.ebay.it/sch/Monete-e-ba...of&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 Another item was sold for only € 31 (I don't know the seller). Three items (maybe the same) for € 49 were not sold. The item sold for € 9.50 does'nt include the two 500 lire silver coins. petronius
@petronius grazie It was a gift so I have no idea how much was paid. It's something I'll never sell. The fact that my daughter thought of me and my collecting passion is priceless. Ciao
For this edition. I think their new parent company is not actually Penguin but another publisher that owns a bunch of recipe mags and stuff like that. The SCWC will be this publishing company's only "collectibles" publication.
Thank you. I am very fortunate to have a very caring, considerate and thoughtful young lady to call my daughter. Although, at 30 y/o she might not call herself young anymore.
And thanks for sharing. You say that you collected US coins for 50 years and never heard of Krause. Fair enough. Despite my interest in foreigns, I never saw the proof set. We see these coins in the junk boxes all the time as circulated items. (The silver coins end up in silver junk boxes. I have a few of the caravels. The woman remains anonymous, but the ships are supposed to represent Columbus's Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.) But to see them in proof state was a new experience. They really are little works of art.
Represents an idealized portrait of a woman of the Italian Renaissance. She was actually Letizia Savonitto, wife of the engraver Pietro Giampaoli, who portraied his wife as made another Italian engraver The ships are really the three Columbus's caravels, and Caravels is popularly named this coin in Italy. The engraver of reverse was Guido Veroi. petronius
