Why don't reporters ask someone before they broadcast this stuff?
    (And this is ABC news!)
Rare quarter, and the tip off is: Her birthday is the date on ONE SIDE of the quarter.

That (naturally) means that the other side is a different date.
    Can anyone spell magician's coin?

    Coin From an ‘Alien Civilization’
    Staff Writer

Al-JOUF, 29 October 2004 — A Saudi newspaper yesterday reported the discovery of what it called a rare coin with unique features that belonged to an ancient civilization. The paper said the coin had an inscription in an unknown language that was not English. It described the coin as having a palm tree with eight branches, a woman sunbathing, a ship and a castle with a dome.

According to the newspaper, the coin belonged to an ancient civilization that flourished in Al-Jouf...

The news article did have this to say "The coin, which has been authenticated, has George Washington's image on both sides. It is rare for a U.S. Mint to make an error, so the coin is very valuable. "

So who authenticated it??? A TPG or the US Mint - or Uncle Bob down at the local coin shack? I don't like that visual.

sorry sir but you are wrong, it only graded a 69 because of a small nick on the reverse, you can see it, it is about the size of a quarter :D

Well that's definitely the pertinent question. A genuine two-tailed quarter has in fact been discovered and authenticated before... so it is not impossible that a genuine two-headed quarter may exist. Unlikely, but not impossible. (Though it's impossible with current Mint equipment to match two tails or two heads together, since the dies are keyed in a way that can't happen. Hasn't always been the case though...)

If a reputable TPG confirms it as a genuine error, yes that would be pretty valuable. Only 4 genuine US tail/tail or head/head mules have ever been discovered as far as I know (and only about a dozen or so non-US ones for that matter). Chances are she probably found a magician's coin... but there remains a very small, but not zero, chance she has a genuine head/head mule. If so I'm sure it will be big news in the numismatic world.

Agreed, not very likely since it (one side) is dated from her year of birth............

    Unless she is VERY old!

Yeah! Puerto Rico is Spanish so at least they got one thing right. :mouth: I lived there for quite some time and I can tell you, some of the people there are alien so they got two things right.

Isn't the rule of thumb in reporting that you only have to get two out of three right for it to be good reporting? :goof:

    Ribbit :)

Ps: At least the Puerto Ricans called the Dominicans and Haitians aliens.
