Interesting is that PCGS is not awarding the 1st find money nor starting the early release clock.

That's because PCGS got caught at their own rip-off "you have to grade them" game. Anything graded is and has always been a scam to increase certain individuals collections' values and manipulate a market they created! IMHO nah Fact Jack! Read up on their history and who all has sat on their board who are now multi-millionaires and you know who you are! Then study the Hobby of Kings and realize how it was done b4 TPG's took control of a hobby. Then see Websters definition of "hobby". How do you assign a grade to a coin that doesn't yet exist?

Of course many collectors weren't buying, much less born yet when this happened. Also a fact PCGS opened in 1985. Collectors Universe (parent company) was open for business in 1986 with one of their first acquisitions being PCGS. And their (CollectorsUniverse)President was the same as the head Founder of PCGS. Good business, maybe, created a billion dollar business from a mere hobby? Definitely! Go through PCGS published Price Guide and Newsletters and see how much of this they mention,,,,https://web.archive.org/web/2012110...90/08/17/business/coin-grading-complaint.html

I've resisted TPG coins, although a fellow TC member had two of mine certified for me earlier this year. My opinions don't always jibe with many of the conventional wisdom folks' here, but I must admit that when it comes to certain higher-valued items, it makes sense to restrict purchases to those that have already been certified.

So, did this guy get the PCGS 'bounty' or not?

Well, PCGS did turn 50 cents of his pocket change into well-advertised numismatic rarities with a population count of two, so they certainly did something for the guy.

You can’t expect them to pull the rug out from under their own advertising promotion by awarding the prize before anyone else even has a chance to start looking.

Seems odd they still have not announced a winner, nor started the clock.

I believe most if not all of them were multi-millionaires before PCGS was founded.

    1986

And Collectors Universe was most likely created to BE the owner of PCGS and later other companies. This is not unusual for large corporations. It isolates and limits the liabilities of the officers and board. Same reason why most new businesses now incorporate as LLC's rather than stand as partnerships or sole proprietorships.
