Can only see a smudge of the lower part of letter L at around a 15 degree angle. Question I have is would circulation damage cause his eye to appear closed like this?
Will try and get a better pic but looking at it with loop at every angle it's appearance seems different but I don't know about these things. Anyway will try and post better pics...Thanks Paddyman98.
It's called PMD - Post Mint Damage which occurs after it left the mint. When you understand how coins are minted and how true mint errors occur you can know the difference.
It's more than a scratch, it's a shallow gouge. It starts at the back of the ear, disappears through the shallow portion on his cheek, reappears through the eye and nose then ends in the field on the right. It's as plain as the nose on Lincoln's face.
Indeed. You can even see where it starts out in the right field, and moving to the left, crosses his eye, then proceeds onward to end right above his ear. PMD. Spend it, if you can find anywhere to spend a cent nowadays. Put it in the penny jar, anyway.
