Hello everyone, Would appreciate any help in identifying this Roman coin. I believe it is Geta, but couldn't get any further than that. Many thanks! Thomas
Not Geta -- see the radiate crown? That indicates it's an antoninianus, a denomination introduced in AD 215, after Geta's death. This youthful figure is probably Tetricus II because the COMES AVG reverse couldn't really go with any other young ruler.
The legend is not completely readable, therefore Tetricis II, RIC 224 or RIC 225 http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.5.tet_i.224 http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.5.tet_i.225
Tetricus II, Bi. antoninianus. Hybrid with reverse of Tetricus I. C PIV ESV TETRICVS CAES, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right / COMES AVG, Victory standing left, holding wreath and palm http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/tetricus_II/t.html http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/tetricus_II/RIC_0224.jpg
