I was just trying to get some help on these striations, I guess is what they could be called, on the rim of this 2018 P Minnesota quarter. Thanks for any help. The second 2 pictures are of the same year quarter, but smooth.
I know these pictures are fuzzy but they're just to show the off center strike. I don't know if that will help someone with identifying what caused this. This was the last thing I was looking at before I went to the hospital for 2 days, so I don't exactly feel good but I can't sleep either.
Can you explane what your seeing? I see a quarter that the die used most likely struck at the end or near end of its life.
Whatever it is, it's very obvious. It was in change from the gas station and I noticed it as soon as he handed me the change.
You are correct to call them striations. They are caused be metal flow on the face of the die, and get more prominent as the die wears out.
What I see on this is a partial collar error. Similar to this link. https://minterrornews.com/priceguidepartialcollar.html
Ok then I was wrong on what your coin is. Also in the future it's best if you do not post a coin with distracting background like the one you chose. Colored pencils are not for everyone
Sorry, man. I didn't get my official rule book when I signed up. You think I could borrow yours until mine comes? Thanks!
I understand what it is. I wasn't aware I needed to do all that to post a picture. Y'all are some sticklers about things I would have never imagined.
It's not that we're sticklers we're trying to make it easier to help you. People show up post a dozen out of focus pictures misaligned with their toes and nether regions in the background... 90% of the image area has nothing to do with the coin question. Potato photos as in it might as well be a potato. they post a title but doesn't explain anything about what they think they're seeing. And then they argue with us when we tell them it's not an error. Some of the people answering your questions have 30 years of experience as collectors. Some of them are the top error dealers in the world. Graciously and generously giving their time to examine road rash pocket change some fool thinks is a valueabv error based on a really bad YouTube video. I'm not saying this is you but I'm giving you context with why we asked for some of the things we ask for. AA coupl of full obverse and reverse pictures of the coin plus details of the feature under consideration, in focus and most of the image being the relevant part just makes it easier to help you. people post a shout out at 3 in the morning to one of the error dealers and then when they haven't gotten an answer by 10 a.m. they ask why don't you respond ... Well, they have a life and a business and the ROI on answering questions is pretty small. many people have this entire section on ignore because the signal-to-noise ratio is so poor. one of the best features of cointalk is that you can put a large number of people on ignore... It really helps Anyway hopefully that that answers the question that you didn't ask.
You about had me scrolling up to find where I argued with someone. I thought my images were pretty much inside of your criteria. This is a coin forum, not an art class so that should be presumptive that the reeding was the main focus of the picture. Anyways, I'll do better next time. Thanks for the info. Have a good night
