Close enough! It was the winning design submission for the Washington quarter! The reason it was not selected, I have read, is that Mellon didn’t want to use a woman’s design. See https://news.coinupdate.com/the-life-and-work-of-laura-gardin-fraser-3389/ The design was later used for the 1999 Washington $5 gold coin.
Here are 4 pictures of the same token, different background. I've looked on-line and can't find anything. I found it in my grandfathers possessions. The token is 22 mm in diameter and weighs 3.8 grams. Any help identifying this token or finding some documented resources would be helpful. Thanks!
There was no wrong direction when this design was made.I think it mimics the barber quarter to some degree.
My local coin shop is closing for good this month. Picked this up today when I stopped by to say hello. I think it's an 1813 Nova Scotia half penny token. It has a bit of self-promoting propaganda on it: "Pure Copper Preferable to Paper". I guess money was in very short supply due to the disruptions of the Napoleonic Wars, especially in the more remote colonies.
I found another site other than the one alurid posted but my phone quit on me and I lost it. When I get home I'll see if I can find it again.
