So it might sound crazy but I couldn't see a date with my eyes so I went ahead and took a pic and I kind of noticed what I think looks like a 1908 date ? The second an d third number deff 90 . Any one else see or am I going crazy? Is there anything else to help identify based off my photos?
If you want to see a date, you can pour some hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol in a cup. Put the nickel in the solution overnight and about 75% of the time the solution will etch a date out for you. It ruins any numismatic value the nickel may have held as it will be considered damaged after that. And the nickel will be a ghostly white color..... Every now and again I'll do it. I figure I started with a nickel and ended with a nickel though.
As @derkerlegand indicated, these Buffalo "nickels" were only produced between 1913 & 1938, so what you thought you saw was not really plausible. (Side note: If you haven't already, you should buy a copy of the red book - used, within the last 2-3 yrs is OK. I only mention this because you describe yourself as "Coinkrazzz", yet you didn't know that a 1908 buff doesn't exist.) Randy's suggestion is good, because in the condition that coin is in, it would only be a hole filler even if you were to determine the date. (Note: If you were to notice that it was a "2 feather", or "3 legged", it might be worth something in its current state, but...) Keep up the good hunt, keep learning, & try not to invest too much time in a red herring. JMHO (Btw, I would guess it's a '28 or '29)
