Welcome to the neighborhood, Anna! Your images are too blurry when I zoom in on them. Do you have a copy stand or tripod to stabilize your camera? Chris
This date is one noted for filled mint marks ,couple that with a hit to the area makes the D look like a over mint mark or rpm , quite a few newbies are sure they found pay dirt by the look of the mint mark. Just filled P,D,or S letter.
I apologize for my ignorance, yes, i am a newby. just as each of you once were. and what better way to learn? i appreciate and respect each person that took the time to help me. thank you for sharing your knowledge
Ii DO have a question regarding an 1897-O morgan silver dollar, but honestly, I am a bit discouraged, and a little embarrassed to ask... I've never been a quitter before, and I can't see starting now... I should let everyone know, I am hardly looking for that one coin that will set me for life, financially. With my luck, I may as well be hunting for a glittery pink unicorn deep sea fishing off of an orca in lake okeechobee... It's a new hobby I've taken up, due to the recent inability to to be active. Cancer sux... Once again, please excuse my ignorance, I was looking at my morgan dollar, the back has faint doubling, I'm assuming from the die cast. Could somebody tell me what it's from, or what its called? Also, is it something to write in my coin log, or is it not important?
It's called a clash die. At one point the obv. And rev. Dies struck each other without a platchets in the chamber. Thus the design transfered from each die to the other.
