I have this 1923-P Peace Dollar with a die gouge line in the tiara. It is similar to the VAM-1A, but the line is located higher on the tiara. I found another example on eBay that matches mine, and the seller lists it as a new VAM E320, but I can't find anything about this on VAM World. I would appreciate any help in assigning the correct VAM to this piece. Thanks!
VAM 1G. Later die stage shows gouge below O of GOD. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1923-P_VAM-1G
Did you see this page on rarity scale? http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1923-P_VAMs_by_Rarity_Scale
I need to delete that page. It gives no useful information and only serves to mislead people into thinking that an obscure variety is rare, therefore valuable. The R scale for VAMs was devised in 1965 and has evolved as the focus eventually became finding every die pair. Numbers were assigned as a guess at the time of discovery, have never been modified, and the only way to know when they were assigned is to know when the VAM was first listed. And, yes, VAM 1G. Nice! Not sure what E320 is other than a Mercedes.
