I just pulled this out of a bank roll. There are no remnants of a D anywhere that I can see,so I ruled it out as a weak D. Idk if the reverse is a strong or weak strike, but, going by the stems of the wheat stalks,it looks alot better than the weak reverse examples i have looked at. I know there are alot of fakes of this coin, with that being said, what are your opinions? Real? Fake? Strong or weak reverse?
IMO Hope I'm wrong but it looks fake. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/1922Ddievarieties.html Wait for the experts: @Michael K; @Fred Weinberg; @mikediamond; et al
Here's another site with some photos: https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1...kAhWsslkKHWwuBk0QsAR6BAgJEAE&biw=1302&bih=591
Looks sketchy doesnt it,haha. @thomas mozzillo thank you for all the info, much appreciated. Idk what to do with it tbh,I am in no position to tell what it is,I may have to send it off to get authenticated if it is even worth doing that.
The reverse looks like a poorly done magician's coin, but the obverse looks good (ignoring the scratches). Why would someone try to replace the reverse with a poor example that looks much worse than the front. The Chinese fakes are way better than this. I, too, am waiting for the experts to chime in. Steve
The date is so strong. They never look that prominent. Especially when you consider the condition of the rest of the coin. The wear would be more even and the date would be affected. My first instinct was fake, but I don't know. That color is wrong. If it is real, I would say the D has been removed. Something looks wrong. Here is my coin just to compare color and authenticity:
Thanks fred,I may send it in with my next submissions just to make sure.I trust your opinion but I might as well have it looked at.
Exactly! Just like the 1937-D "3-legged" Buffalo Nickel. NOT AN ERROR. 1955 Doubled-Die Lincoln Cent... NOT AN ERROR.
No question fake, the digits of the date are much too strong, and the bases of the 2's are not on the same level.
