http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/trajan/i.html I posted this in the other thread too. You can search the legends to help you find your coin.
IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP COS V PP is what the obverse legend looks like to me Emperor Trajan, Augustus (all his billion titles) Reverse: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI I belive
nope, they just gave it. To my eye, I don't understand how you guys can read the lettering. It must take years of practice to learn to read it. I am soooo confused.
This webpage from @Aethelred might help you with the reading of the legend. http://www.wnccoins.com/0022.htm IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP COS V PP The parts of the legend that @furryfrog02 doesn't mention that appear on your particular coin (and called out as "billion titles") include: GER = Recognizes Trajan's victory over the Germanic peoples DAC = Recognizes Trajan's victory over the Dacians Also, the Roman language didn't have U's or J's and they used V and I to represent those letters, respectively. You'll notice this in Trajan's name on the coin, TRAIANO = TRAJANO, and in AVG = AUG (short for Augustus) SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI SPQR = Senatus Populusque Romanus - The Senate and the Roman People. (NumisWiki) OPTIMO PRINCIPI = [dedicated to whatever is prior] To the Best Prince (NumisWiki) And the book mentioned in the webpage I shared above, the book Reading and Dating Roman Imperial Coins by Zander Klawans might be a good one to start with.
I will refer to my reply earlier today on the giveaway thread. PS: This is the coin I found in an old safety deposit box, in case you guys don't recall.
He didn't ask for value, the person who replied to the PCGS thread gave it to him without being asked.
