This is a 1992 D, Is the lettering here showing wear or an error? It is on the rim of the coin, and the rim itself is very thin on the upper left and thicker on the bottom right. 1992d.jpg wierf (3).jpg

Just a worn die strike. Normal occurrence on copper plated zinc cents. Known as a ring ridge.

Thank you. I am quite overwhelmed trying to figure out if any of my fathers wheat penny hoard is of any value. I have a 22 gallon tote full of them, and trying to learn as quickly as possible.

I've hoarded all my change sine the 1970s.
    Why? .. just because.

it's all worth face value if you ask me.

you may have come across someone else who just keeps all their change.
But some people get enjoyment in "the search".

Welcome to CT NuttieNettie, fun handle to go by . . . I think. In the future, please post full size photos of the obverse (front) and reverse (back) of your coin and make sure they are 1) in focus, 2) properly orientated, 3) cropped to get rid of all unnecessary background, and then close ups of any areas you are questioning. I suggest you buy a couple of good books that focus on the coins you are looking at so you can learn as you go, and then ask questions here if you can't find the answer in the book or online. Have fun with the collection your father obviously thought was worth collecting.

Unfortunately, numismatics is something that takes time to learn because there are so many facets to the hobby.

5 threads on Lincoln cents...1 thread on a quarter...5 more threads on Lincoln cents...one thread on a half dollar...10 more threads on Lincoln cents...

    Get my drift?

I noticed that. All basically nothing but face value coins.
