Welcome to Coin Talk. The Buffalo Nickel (Indian Head nickel) is a 1913 Type 1. Worth a little bit, maybe a dollar or two at most in that condition. The two Jefferson nickels are common date are are really only worth face value.
The design changes mid-1913 to place the bison on a flat plain. That design on the reverse continued from mid 1913 until the end of the design in 1938. So the bison on a mound definitely identifies it as a 1913 Type 1.
If it wasn't a mound you wouldn't be able to date it. There are ways to bring out a date, but it ruins the coin, since the mound marker identifies the date of the coin, there's no reason to ruin it.
Yes. There are tons of dateless Buffalo Nickels that are Type 2 where there is virtually no way to date them. The OP coin unfortunately has wear on the reverse to the point preventing any mint mark identification. I agree with Michael that there is no reason to do anything to ruin the coin.
