I just bought this 1950-D Nickel, mainly because I liked the looks of it. It has brilliant color or shine to it. It does have a week strike, but what do you think ?
I may be wrong but it looks like its got a few hits around the jaw and on the reverse on the front of Monticello....MS61. Nice Nickel!!
Looks like there is wear though to me, but I could be totally wrong, tough to tell by the pics. But I'll say AU-55. Nice coin, MS or AU! :thumb: Phoenix
I was kind of thinking that too, but I'm leaning towards a weak strike, I think AU50ish with some good eye appeal. The coin is nice IMO.
looks like two different coins almost. Nice obverse with good details but pretty marked up but from that photo the reverse looks to have very little detail especially towards the top of the building either side of the steps. Also looks less lusterous on the reverse. Still I wouldn't say no to it. You mind spilling the beans on how much you paid?
I got it at a coin shop for ten. They had another one but it looked worse and theywanted more for it.
I love Nickels. This one looks to have a week strike and some wear. I could be wrong, that wouldnt be unheard of. As pictures are never better then seeing a in hand. I will say high end AU weak strike and feel good about it.
Thanks for the imput. I hate to go back to the coin shop and tell the guy I got a bad coin. He graded it as an MS63, but with the weak strike I think I have to go along with you guys. Maybe just an AU.
Just for information regarding grading on a 1950-D Nickel; The finest Uncirculated non-Full Step examples graded by PCGS are 3 MS-67's. The finest Uncirculated Full Step examples graded by PCGS are 2 MS-67's.
