Where do I go to find someone that can straight talk about coins. If you know, tell them to come and visit us here. I learn more and never had anymore fun with belly laughs. Youse gyz break me up...
I gotta admit, I have never, and will never, look at another coin forum like, forever. This place is just too good, and I'm getting to know the people here. They have helped me more than they know. I'm just a hobbyist collector, trying to learn some things but also simply buying what I like. I've taken a few hits, but you know, I didn't go all through school without hearing some criticism, and I don't expect a free ride here. And believe me, you don't give it! But that's okay, the things I learn here are very valuable, and I thank all of you for being here.
This forum is the best. I diddle around a bit on PCGS, but as someone else implied, a lot of their members play a collecting game with which I’m not familiar.
Well, let's see who is up next. Hey, who has the darts? Come on guys. Quit playing around. We've got someone here who really wants to know something about coins. Give us a few minutes, Jim. Why don't you go ahead and start a new thread, and we should have the darts by then. All right wise guys! Who took the dart board? Chris
I used to be very, very active on the NGC boards. NGC was always "Sleepy Hollow" compared to PCGS, but the boards were fairly active and lively enough. However, through a combination of very poor moderation, extremely poor technology, and an even worse series of business decisions by NGC, I found myself less interested in that forum. Apparently, so did the majority of posters there. That place is essentially dead now. Mark Salzberg asked me personally what I suggested to improve the forums, but apparently he didn't like my suggestions.... PCGS has always been far too partisan. You either drink the koolaid, or you don't last long there. I technically have a forum ID there, but I only rarely post there. CoinTalk is.... well, it's its own thing. There is an abundance of parking lot warriors posting their road rash coins, but there are also some really knowledgeable people here. A couple of recent additions (and some who have shifted more towards here than there) have significantly increased the expertise of these boards - names I know and love from the NGC boards. No doubt, I have my disagreements on these boards (I guarantee several members have me on their ignore list.... that's ok, I've got several of you on my ignore list too). But, overall, right now, this is the best forum I'm aware of.
Best forum ever. I don't post much and don't have a lot of free time, but I do read all the articles. I have learned a whole lotta things here. Reading is everything. Questions when uncertain. Keep up the good work everyone !
My impression of that place is limited solely to when I do google searches for topics and that forum comes up as a link. My impression, based on this limited sample, is that it is quite a bit slower than it is here, the general knowledge level is lower, and its geared a lot more towards people who found a wheat cent in a hoard and have a basic question. Not a whole lot of high level scholarship or knowledge, although there are probably some knowledgeable posters who drop in from time to time. For a beginner, its ok. For an intermediate, you've probably max levelled that place. An advanced numismatist will be downright bored there, from my impression.
If you have serious questions ask them. If I can answer them I will. (unless they have already been sufficiently answered by others already, I don't normally do a lot of "me too" posts.) I don't normally say much about grade or value though as they don't appeal tome. Do I qualify? I post/answer questions there.
As for Coin Community Forum, I have an account there, but only stop by when summoned. The presentation is an eyesore that hampers usability, and the forums are far too fragmented to get a good feeling for the entire "community." My forum time is split between here, PCGS, and VAMWorld (which I administer). I also have an NGC forum account, but rarely use it.
I can't even remember my password for CU. It's just as well. I'd probably get in trouble real quick. Chris
Wow realy I remember a thread of "how far can we get with the" I cant remember the year of the Lincoln coin it start it with. I dont know if that was u. But that's not cool wht they did.
The best feature of this forum is LordM! Actually, I enjoy this forum but spend a lot more time reading the PCGS site because, as physics-fan says, the level of discourse seems higher there. But this is definitely a fun forum and any forum with Conder101 has a knowledgeable poster.
I'll try to see if I can find @Spence there and have him contact u here... Hope they dont band me...lol
